View Full Version : Black Clip on Super G+
tom750 10-04-2007, 05:35 AM hey Guys
For a long time I was just collecting AFX Turbo cars, and latly I got my first Super G+, the black clip that connects the Shell to the car snapped, I though it was just a one of, so I bought to more and again the clips broke, is this my fault or is a common accurace and what can I do to get my cars running again.
Thanks
Tom

AfxToo 10-04-2007, 07:40 AM Tom, there is a batch of these that are somewhat brittle and easy to break. In fact, the matching black magnet retainer clips and even the black Super G+ chassis sold over the past 5 years or so can be brittle as well. I've broken several chassis, some upon removing the car from the package, and even more magnet and body clips.
The good news is that the manufacturer is addressing the problems. The newer release gray Tomy AFX Super G+ chassis has a crisp, fresh new mold and a better grade of plastic. They are very very nice. Eventually the magnet clips and body clips will be updated to the new material as well. But it will take a while for these to find there way into the inventory.
In the meantime, contact RaceMasters (http://www.toyracecars.com/) and tell them about your problem. Chances are good that they will send you free replacements for your broken parts. It's up to them, but they have been very proactive and are taking the right steps to restore high quality and innovation to the Tomy AFX brand.
Mike(^RacerX^) 10-05-2007, 12:04 AM I got a batch of those brittle chassis and clips in myself. Most all of them cracked and broke from wall shots.
My medium g3 chassis have taken hundreds of shots without even a crack.
Im back into these again in a big way.I think a few of the cars I just picked up have the new chassis.Need to break them in a bit and se how they are.
And I agree,Racemasters is really stepping up to the plate big time lately.
AFXToo,nice to see your name up there again.I always enjoy what you bring to the table.

Thease G3 Chassis, never heard of them, would they be availble in aus, if not were can i get them.
AfxToo 10-05-2007, 07:09 AM The G3 is made by BSRT. The distribution of BSRT products is done through ScaleAuto (www.scaleauto.com) and most dealers who carry HO racing products will have BSRT products. The G3 and its latest variation the G3R are race inspired derivatives of the venerable Tomy Super G+ design. The changes made to the G3 over the SG+ make it a stronger and more race ready platform.
Except for the traction magnets and traction magnet clip most other G3 parts come directly from the SG+. The G3 chassis is a good upgrade path from the SG+ for around $8.00 USD. The SG+ traction magnets need a small plastic shim to mount in the G3, but everything else snaps right in.
To your issue though, the G3 body clip is exactly the same one used on the SG+. Upgrading to a G3 chassis won't make that problem go away. We'll just have to wait for the new mold clips to make it into the supply channel. I've had very limited success super gluing broken clips back together. It depends on the nature of the break.
The new SG+ chassis started showing up with the "faux NASCAR" bodies and are on the cool new NYPD cop car and the awesome looking new Champ cars. The flatness, fit, and finish of the new SG+ chassis is absolutely stunning. I'm not exaggerating either, the new chassis looks like it was laser milled out of titanium alloy while the old one looks like it was forged from pig iron by a blacksmith.
Crimnick 10-05-2007, 05:55 PM Tom...if there is ever anything you guys need shipped to OZ and cant get it.....let us know....I know I'm not the only one who has offered to middle man stuff to OZ for slot heads...

YES -- The new chassis is sweet. Pair it up with a set of two-dot grey magnets and some sticky tires and you are ready to rock & roll.

A/FX Nut 10-06-2007, 07:57 AM I too have had problems with breaking these clips.
It's good to have you back AFX TOO. Thanks for your information. I didn't know that the chassis material has changed for the Super G+.
Like Mike said wall shots and hitting the floor are hard on these chassis. Randy.
