Ever do something so STUPID! So DUMB! you want to kick something.. ( Volunteers?). I have been working for two weeks on my entry to Rodders contest .. Knew I had to take it up a notch because of Bill and Bob being on a custom tear and with already long time modelers such as Nutter, RR, Boss, Joe, Drag and Kevin here...then Bob shows up so I say Ok Dave up another notch if you want even a chance of placing.. well I was pretty dang sure I not only compete, I would compete well.. Was happily working on the chassis this morning and had the body off.. and noticed a ever so slight area that didn't quite shine as well as the rest..So I said know what? I am going to hit that with one more coat of Clear coat and even it out.. rattle rattle swosh.. hmm that went on thick.. wait thats not clear coat I grabbed the wrong *(^)(*&%&^#&$^@%$$#*(&&*(^()&*)()(&*^%*&% can.. ever try to stripe off a clear coated 3 toned paint job before? I need sympathy.. someone say its ok Dave lots of time left...the rest of you continue laughing.. HAR!

Coach,I went to spray the last coat of clear on an O gauge 55 I make,and grabbed black primer..........good grief.

yeah, we've all done that. My biggest problem is getting super glue on one of my finger tips and runing the car's finish. I've done that at least a dozen times and each time, it pisses me off more.

Thanks for sharing I am not alone in doufus land.. Got the body restriped and one coat back on already may even be better then last time.. But I am afriad to open the lid on the paint booth box now.. lol...

when you use spray can paint what do you use? duplicolor from the auto rack? Krylon seems thick to me same with the rustoleum paints.

Funny that when some asks for painting tips, I'm always one of the first guys to say always check and clear your nozzle/can....and yet still on occasion I barf out some horendous rookie mistake.

Here's my paint related boner of the month. After somewhat duplicating the factory roof finish on the Woody Majic Bus, fortunately now safe at Bobzilla's pad, I knocked down the finish one more time as there was a small booger right in the "look at me position".

A total duh in the first place, cuz had I correctly blown out the squirrel hair brush used for the process, none of this would have happened. Due in part to their fine texture they love to hold dust and carp. A rookie mistake.

Being a two step process I wanted to get the bottom/brushed coat set up so I could spray a smoothing coat down and be done.

So all is well?...WRONG! Set the drying lamp a bit close, at least for the two hours I fergot about it. :rolleyes: D'oh! Woulda been just fine for five er ten minutes! Went and answered the phone, spread some goop on a couple other bodies...and suddenly went OH FUDGE! I knew it was toast! I had compounded my rookie mistake with the grandaddy of all moron mistakes.

The long term exposure melted two holes in the roof and half dozen gruesome sags. Oh, and did I mention the forward glass section looked like it had been micro waved. Miraculously the perimeter of the roof surround survived still remaining flat and square. Figure that one out!????

Needless to say, the required surgical removal of the glass wad and subsequent roof repairs took twice as long as the build. Let alone cutting and fidgeting a new forward glass section in with the modified fender module bonded place. This of course was my punishment in that the original build went so smooth and quick.

The slot gods have a wicked and twisted sense of humor. Remember your are not alone!.......I'm both laughing and crying for everyone who has fubared a build.

hey!! i think i can top that! wanna know what i did ???? i almost had to punch a hole in the wall when i did that last year.. ok.. here goes i painted like 12 bodies ( i was in garage with vent and fans going ) 11 bodies are all painted in different colors all worked out perfectly and laid them all down on bench and i have one body left to work on so i grab the paint can - know what happened?? the F*****g spray can just flat out spit big time like it was not working right like this pppttthhhhhh and i looked down and saw all my 11 bodies with all paint spots all over!!! i was like ohhhhhh SSSS!@#$%^&^*&*())__++!!!!!!#@$%^&*(()())))) arrrrgggghhhh will never forget that night i was sooooo PIIISSEEDDD!!!!!!!

Ok You win.. Opened the top and the car looks nice and smooth so far.. But now knowing I am in the comapny of a mass overspray king and the Anti Smokey Bill, Mr Sticky Fingers Vj and was doing a drive buy ad in chat and picked up the wrong can Drag I feel much better.. and yes sorry I laughed pretty good at them all.. Wife has been calling and the Lawyer letting me know I am now free to unretire myself so I need to get this stuff all caught up before I do actually get bored enough sitting around writting drivel and such, so may become a Walmart greater to relieve the monotony. Anyone ever tell ya being retired at 46 is great fun had a drinking hobby.. I am bored out of my mind. lol.. can ya tell? really?

Surely my meltdown was a comedy of errors, but until sombody tops Wes' "Dirty Dozen" he should hold the trophy. Creaming that many bods with one stroke HAS to be some kind of record! :thumbsup:

LOLOLOL.. 1 weeks worth of work in tiolet!!! all in less than 3 or 4 seconds!!! I had to redo them all and put them all back in pine sol!!

Mind ya ELo can play havick with Smoothon resin for some reason...so its a bit harder work to clean up a mistake..

Another good thing about ELO is it will take paint off chrome without destroying the chrome. I like windex for chrome removal.
