View Full Version : Lois Maxwell Dead at 80
terryr 09-30-2007, 03:32 PM "LONDON — Lois Maxwell, who starred as Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond movies, has died, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported Sunday. She was 80.
The Canadian-born actress starred alongside Sean Connery in the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No," in 1962 as the secretary to M, the head of the secret service.
She died Saturday night at Fremantle Hospital near her home in Perth, Australia, the BBC cited a hospital official as saying.
Bond star Roger Moore said she was suffering from cancer."
I liked her acting style.
SteveR 09-30-2007, 03:55 PM She had good presence. Quite a lady. :(

One of my lifelong crushes. I thought she looked her hottest in the movie "You Only Live Twice". Man, I'm sorry to hear this news but she lived a good long life. I hope I'm that lucky to reach 80. :(
Lloyd Collins 09-30-2007, 07:15 PM When she was not in a James Bond movie, it didn't feel like a Bond movie.
I will also remember her as the voice of Atlanta Shore, the daughter of Commander Shore of W.A.S.P. from Gerry Anderson's Stingray. With her southern accent, she brought to the show a strong woman presence, in the company of all the men.
terryr 10-01-2007, 04:57 PM She was believable as a woman who had hundreds of Top Secrets in her head. The newer Moneypennys seemed like silly little girls who would have never gotten the job.
She was also the mom in a tv show called '...rainbow country'.
John P 10-01-2007, 10:28 PM Sad now. :(

Tell ya the truth, I know a bunch of silly little girls who have US Gov't SECRET clearance. A couple of them even work in our security dept.
dgtrekker 10-02-2007, 01:10 AM A sad loss, but I agree, I'll be happy at 80, though I'm pushing for 500.

The newer Moneypennys seemed like silly little girls who would have never gotten the job.I agree with the first part, but I see no reason to take swipes at others in order to build up Lois Maxwell. Samantha Bond was an excellent, fully competent Moneypenny, and Maxwell's take on the character stands on its own merits.

For the record, Samantha Bond was Moneypenny opposite Pierce Brosnan.
