View Full Version : "Veteran Car Gifts"
Lummox 09-30-2007, 02:31 PM I remember seeing these in my old MB catalogs when I was little - around '71 or so,
but I've NEVER seen one until my cousin picked this one up for me.
The car is the Y-13 Daimler and it's mint and it even has the box!

JasonZ 09-30-2007, 02:33 PM nice one lummox and for 18 bucks
DCPDGUY 09-30-2007, 02:36 PM If I remember right "Y" is for the larger 1/43? Models of yesteryear? So that thing must be fairly large.
Lummox 09-30-2007, 05:42 PM Yes, the casting is pretty much identical to the Y-13 1/43rd Daimler Models of Yesteryear.
Other than the chrome finnish, the only difference is 2 posts cast into the base
so it can be screwed to the base.
I wonder how hard this series is to find?
Not that I'm big into it, but it was a nice gift from my favorite cousin.

This model is 1:45 scale. The Veterans or plated series is still fairly accessable but your cousin did very well with this one. Boxed models are not easily found and at that price a bargain. Nice catch.
The Moutain 10-01-2007, 06:27 PM very nice sounds like a good deal at $18.00 :)
the three pack veteran gif set was around for a while and more retail ready.
Lummox 10-01-2007, 06:38 PM Veteran gift set were sold in 3-packs?!?!
These don't strike me as something that would have sold particularly well as a single,
then add 2 more to the mix? I'm shocked!
Very interesting.
Thanks for all the nice info, guys!
The Moutain 10-02-2007, 08:36 PM somebody might be able to post a picture of the three pack. i know it was in the early seventies catalogs , i’ll try and post it. it was a window box about three times the length of a single yesteryear window box.
another line was the souvenir matchbox. here is a souvenirs gold y-13 crossley pen stand.

Lummox 10-02-2007, 11:14 PM What's that one, early-mid eighties or so?
SMS88 10-03-2007, 03:19 AM When I was a child it wasnt unusual to visit somebody´s home and see one of these YY plated ashtrays. I can remember my uncle had one and i was suprised that the car couldnt be driven off the ashtray.........the ultra-rare issue is the Buggatti type 33, one of the nicest YY after the blower Bentley IMHO
The Moutain 10-03-2007, 08:06 PM it was a mid 1970’s release.
here is the three pack from the 1971 pocket catalog.

Lummox 07-01-2010, 01:29 PM This thread's allmost 3 years old?!?!?! Time flies!
Digging it up for obvious reasons.
And we haven't seen the Mighty Mountain around for a long time!
dragonhead00 07-01-2010, 04:33 PM It's a very interesting release, Lummox. It would be a great addition to any Lesney collection.
