View Full Version : B&S Engine runs for a while and then dies...

I have a 15 hp B&S engine on a Craftsman riding mower.
over the last 6 months (or so), the mower will run flawlessly for about 30 minutes to an hour...then it will start sputtering and eventually die...unless I choke it. If I choke it, it will run (sluggishly) long enough for me to get it back to the garage.

I have replaced the coil, the spark plug wire, the fuel filter and the air filter and I am still having this problem.

I have even removed the "needle" that is on the fuel pump that cuts the engine off when you get off the seat (by recommendation of a small engine repair shop near me) - and still having issues with it.

I am at my witts end now and am about ready to chunk this piece of garbage in the trash can....unless some one on here can help me.

Thanks for allowing me to join and I would appreciate any help I can get

Next time it does this loosen the gas cap on the tank. The cap may not be venting, stopping fuel flow.

What needle in the fuel pump? I have never seen a safety interlock like that!

What is the model number of your mower?

It seems that the gas cap may have been the culprit...

It seems to be running fine now..
