How do you know when you need to make a caster change? Is it ok to run the same split at every track I go to? Is there a better way out there to check the caster then the camber gauge deal? Help please

Well the first thing you need to do is, change those KSG blocks on your car and send them to me.......

I use the same amount of caster on all tracks 0 on left and 2 degress on right. Normally you can eyeball how much by looking though spokes of wheel, the left should be straight up and down (normally with a spacer in front and rear for AE type) and top leaning back on right front (both spacers in front).

Other setups caster, spring rates, battery position, tire compound etc kinda changes as track surface changes camber pretty much remains the same.

Heres a great article with alot of interesting info http://www.iroaronline.org/dannyb.html

Theres a very nice looking tool from KSG that I,m thinking of investing in it doesent say wether or not it can be used to measure caster? Anyone know?

I also leave my caster alone. I also set the right 2deg back and left 0 deg. I have the ksg camber guage and love it. I made a gauge to measure caster. go to www.rc-oval.com and look in the articles on the right side of home page for camber caster to. that's the one that I made. you can find the tools needed at home depots and on the web. you will have about 20.00 in the tool. it works great for caster.

You can have all you need to make your caster adjustments by getting
an 1/8" drill blank (or slot car axle) and a kids protractor.
Whenever you measure something, comparitively, you need as long a reference
as you can get. In other words, you can see if a fencepost is out of plumb, by eye,
easier than you can a matchstick. In this case, a 3" drill blank is the fencepost,
and the kingpin is the matchstick...

If you take your protractor, and cut a few index cards at say 1 degree, and 3 degrees,
or 0 and 2, what ever you want, just remove your kingpin, and install the drill blank.
Now.. just sight your drill blank to your index card 'gauge'.
You will never be off so much that you will ever notice a difference...
Caster on r/c cars, is not one of those 'vital' adjustments..
A lot of the comparisons made to real cars, do not carry over to r/c cars..

I built this one myself. I can't take credit for the design though.

I have about $20 invested in it. The Protractor is the expensive part.

The e

You will be very surprised to find that even if you "think" you have zero caster because of the location of your spacers - you probably have 2 - 4 degrees!

Honestly that is what I have found.
