How are the smaller motor tuners/retailers doing? Still have enough sales to pay the bills? I know Lightspeed closed their doors earlier this year, just wondering about the health of the "little guys" since he brushless revolution started.

I think Putnam is doing "Ok" with Dirt Oval stuff (Motors/Cars) still being pretty hot in our region.....

Of course it's going to put them out of business unless they change there product line. Since the move to brushless by racers (which I think is stupid, Brushless belongs as an entry level fun classes, not racing), what did you think was going to happen. Bash away

I think most racers have X amount of dollars they can or are willing to spend on the hobby. I think they'll spend that same amount of money whether they run brushed or BL, they will just spend it in different places.

That means that the same pool of money is there for the manufacturers either way. If the brushed motor tuners want to be stubborn they'll go under, if they want to adapt to a changing marketplace they'll survive. Welcome to the reality of pretty much every business.

I feel the motor builders will have to make slight changes to still be profitable, but there is still a pretty big market for brushed motors.... Im not sure what the builders can do with BL motors yet, but im sure there will be a way to tune them and sell them under there own label...... I disagree with the brushless should be an entry level class thing tho especially with mod BL becouse you do have motor tuning options with different rotors, timing, windings, speedo settings, radio settings. Those same tuning options can also be take'n advantage of in any other bl class as well, with the exceptions of different style rotors and windings.

Thanks for the responses. I noticed quite a few companies either havent updated their product lines/websites for a couple of years or folded up all together and was wondering if the brushless stuff was really hurting them that bad. I personally am not a fan of brushless just because I enjoy tinkering with the motors, but to each their own. So long as I can get parts for my brushed stuff Im happy.

On the same line, what will happen to the battery matchers when we all switch over to Lipo's. They will pretty much be out of luck too.

I think that will be way down the road. I don't see enough benefits in lipo to outweigh the risks. It's not a big enough technology leap like brushless is over brushed.

The same thing that will happen to GAS STATIONS when Street Vehicles switch over to something other than GASOLINE POWER. Until then they will make as much profit from their consumers as possible, and keep the market buying their product as long as they can keep selling.

Not enough benefit? Not enough technology leap?.........WOW !!!

McLin, some folks have not taken a drink of the lipo coolaid yet, folks like us are the finge group, but it is coming. Believe it or not I have been told by some that there car makesr doesn't offer a tray that will fit a lipo pack, that was their reason for not even looking at the possibilities.

BTW, I think it is a huge technology leap!!!

The brushless is not just an entry level type motor!! For me it keeps me in the hobby, less money for me too run competitively than a brushed motors with all the motor's ,brushes, springs, shims, springdyno, lathe, magnet zapper, motor dyno to maintain. then haul all that crap along to the races. I have full sized drag cars that i run and now a 7yr old racing dirt oval karts,It was getting to the point where i was going to have to pick one or the other! and if that would of happend i would sell the rc stuff first and stay with stuff that i can sit in and race. The BRL and the brushless racing in general has kept me and i feel more peaple in the hobby and bringing more in.

I love my brushless systems I have switched over in my oval and my on road car. I can't wait till we start useing lipo's. I think it will even the playing field even more between the fast guys and the others not so fast. Brushless has got me closer to the speeds of the fast guys. I'm only a 10th or 2 off the fast guys. It may be voltage Because I can't afford new batteries then again it may be chassis who knows till we start useing lipo's.

it wont matter if the smaller companies follow the crowd and start build bl motors because most races are only allowing the novak motors to be used in race situations any ways. i think the smaller companies should do there homework and come out with some really good brushed motors and dominate that market until they start allowing other bl motor brands to be used at race events.
