I just started painting several HO AFX/Tyco hard bodies. It's coming pretty well. I followed all of the cool tips that i got online here thanks. I wasn't entirely happy because the finish wasn't smooth enough for my liking. (I heated the paint/shook et.) I was buying paint and a young man who worked there recommended laquer paints and showed me several of his projects with enamel and laquer finishes and how the laquer was clearly smoother and glossier. I just painted my AFX Ferrari Daytona using Tamiya laquer primer and Model Masters Italian red finish. It looks like glass. I had to lay several coats of the primer to make it fat and three fat coats of finish. I'm converted. My AC Cobra is next yellow and blue. Just thought i'd pass that on. thx mj

I try to keep my primer and paint as thin as possible. Too many coats and you start to lose the sharpness of the details. The primer is just to help the paint stick to the body, one coat will do that. I try my best to get a nice even coat of paint on the first spray so I can keep it as thin as possible.

You should ALWAYS use a good primer like Dupli-Color or some such when using lacquer paints. It not only helps the paint to adhere, it protects the plastic against a "hot" paint.

Nothing like hitting that body with some hot paint and the next think you know your plastic is bubbling or getting soft. :freak: rr
