STUTZ 09-20-2007, 04:42 PM I had one just like it. It's a 1/8 scale model. It's an extremely nice model! I sold mine about 25 years ago. I believe that model was introduced around 1976 or so. The pistons go up and down in the engine, and if it's working properly, if you push the model on a flat surface and press the brake pedal, the brakes should work. The model has over 2000 pieces if I remember correctly. There are other working parts on the car too. The seats have springs in them too. The car was assembled with tiny bolts. The wheels are assembled spoke by spoke.
I had the Rolls-Royce also. I believe the Rolls-Royce came out in 1974 with a suggested retail of $200. The car you have came out later, and was $250 retail.
It looks like a dealer display, because the regular car didn't come with a display case, but your grandfather could have had the display case made.
Lummox 09-20-2007, 04:44 PM WOW!!! Just GEORGEOUS!!!
I think it's a Pocher.
I'll do some looking and get back to ya.
OH! You allready said it was a Posher.
Cool, I'll get you a little more info ~ hang on...
Lummox 09-20-2007, 04:49 PM Stutz you beat me to it!
Although those models came out a little earlier than '76.
I have a 1968 Auto-World catalog with the entire line in it including that one I think.
I'll go check. If there's anything else in there about it I can tell you, I will.
One more thing....can I have it? :p
STUTZ 09-20-2007, 04:50 PM Here's a link to the Pocher Rolls-Royce that I had.

Dave, I think it might be a 1978 Auto World catalog that you have with the Mercedes in it. I remember the Rolls-Royce came out first (1974 I think), and then the Mercedes came out later.
STUTZ 09-20-2007, 04:57 PM Welcome to Hobby Talk Tim!
Lummox 09-20-2007, 05:20 PM Yes, by all means, welcome!
Of course you're right about the Benz not being that old!
In the '68 Catalog there are only 3 models in it. Is that all that was available then Stutz?
The Rolls that's in it is a '32 Phantom II Coupe @ 139.00. That's the one you had, right?
Did you build it yourself? (!)
I'd love to find a Pocher one day ~ "used" preferably!
Tim Allen 09-20-2007, 05:27 PM Yes if memory serves me correct he built the case himself, he also had about 18 franklin mint cars along with some HUGE old wooden ships that he built (each ship took about a year and some). I believe someone offered him 10k for one of the ships but he turned them down. None the less thanks for the info on the car, no one in the family knew anything about it except for his wife (and her memory wasnt that great).
Now need to go through his railroad car collection :)
Lummox 09-20-2007, 05:35 PM Wow Tim, that's quite an interesting grandfather you had there!
Thanks for sharing pics with us and let us know if we can help with anything else.
Stutz, did you build yours?

When I got an ad in the mail in 1974 the 1932 Roll-Royce Phantom II coupe was $200. That's what I paid for mine. The Meccedes-Benz Cabriolet 500KM was $250, but wasn't available in 1974. The other three cars that were available at that time (1974) were 1931 Alpha Romeo Grand Sport Spider ($150 I believe), 1931 Alpha Romeo 8C-2300 Monza ($125 I believe), and the 1907 Fiat Grand Prix Racer ($100 I believe).
I sold my un-built 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II coupe several years ago. This car was BIG (over 26" long)!

Was that the retail price for the car built, or just in kit form???

The model was sold in kit form. I've seen three different Pocher dealer displays in a hobby store. They are quite impressive!
I believe TYCO bought Pocher, and the rumor that I heard years ago was that they were priced around $30 at K-MART. The marketing person got fired for the wrong pricing (that's what I was told).
Here's the page from the 1978 Auto World catalog for the Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet 500KM that you have. I remember the year of the car being 1935. I sold mine to a Mercedes-Benz dealer. It's funny, how many miles he drove to pickup the car from me. The retail was $250 when introduced as I remember. The 1978 Auto World catalog has the price at $249.50. I was off 50 cents. Well, my memory wasn't 100% correct, but it was close ($249.50, compared to my $250.00 price). :p

Hope this helps Tim.
STUTZ 09-20-2007, 07:14 PM Stutz, did you build yours?
Yep, I did Lummox. I had two of them.
Lummox, you did it now! I'm going to storage to look for vintage toys! ;)
Here's a page from the 1978 Auto World catalog with a description of the 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II coupe.

Lummox 09-20-2007, 07:40 PM Glad I could "help" :p
You must have a more comprehensive edition of the '78 catalog.
Mine only goes up to p.147 with no Pocher in it at all.
I don't save many lincs, but the Pocher one ~ those are just amazing models
I'm just completley blown away.
Thanks again for that!
Tim Allen 09-20-2007, 09:07 PM Not that I would sell this anytime soon, but since we need to find out the price of all the stuff being handed down to the grandchildren, roughly what are the going prices on these late model Pochers??
Lummox 09-20-2007, 09:52 PM Stutz... appraisals, line one. Stutz, line one...

Hi Tim, I answered your question in another forum. It's post #11. The link is below.

Tim Allen 09-21-2007, 04:32 PM Thanks Thanks, ive been doing a little research on them and found that my model apparently was supposed to come with plastic wheels. From what I can tell they are def not plastic so not sure if that is an error in the packaging or something custome my grandfather did. Either way its a amazing model and ill keep it in the family. Thanks for all your help gentlemen

It was a pleasure helping you Tim.
Your model shouldn't have come with plastic wheels. The wheels should be metal wire wheels (like you have), and each spoke is laced to the wheel.
