I have a Yard Machine lawn mower with a broken cable that is used to ground out the engine. The cable is a attached to a lever which must be depressed to start the engine. My problem is how do you splice the cable. I've tried using sleeves and clamps without any success. I was wondering if JB Weld would do the job. I have a MIG welder and I was thinking of trying to weld the cables. Replacing the cable would of course be the best solution, but I don't want to spend the money. Any suggestions?

There is a considerable amount of tension on the cable, I have used screw type splicers with limited success. The cables are not that expensive to replace.

It turns out that the cable was frayed inside the sheath which caused a lot of tension when pulled causing the sleeves and clamps to fail. I replaced the cable and attached the Z shaped connectors at each end with aluminum sleeves, used a lighter spring and it now works fine. Thanks for the help.

Some people are smart enough not reach under the lawn mower when it's spinning, and I guess maybe there are some that are not so smart. Have you ever thought that maybe it might be a little more difficult to purchase a new cable than going down to your local repair shop, or maybe the lawn mower is so old that the part is not available? Since this is a DIY forum my last post was for those that would like to know what you can do with a frayed cable and don't have access to the part. I was trying to help out, unlike others that are just trying to show everyone what a smartA they are. BTW the spring works fine. Thanks again to those that help out on this forum.
