View Full Version : Does this count as a Vintage?
This was given to my Great-Grandfather when he retired from the Green Island Ford Plant.

My Grandma gave it to me a few months ago, knowing I liked silly old cars...
It's made by a company called Master Caster Mfg, from Chicago.
nascar4al 09-19-2007, 02:41 PM Really neat old car. I sold Fords for the last 25 years. Never heard of the green island plant. I guess it has been closed for some years. Nice car, thanks for the pic.

That's really a vintage model! Thanks for sharing!
Is it a 1/24 or 1/25 scale model? It looks like it is a diecast model.
Could you take a pic of the base?
MattGTO 09-19-2007, 09:39 PM Are you sure its not 1/64 STUTZ? That's what it looks like in the pic.
Lummox 09-19-2007, 10:27 PM I think iut's around 1/25th.
I also think it might possibly be an early dealer promo. Not sure, but it would make scence.
Is it metal?

I don't think 1/64 scale was around in 1948. The car is nicely detailed for a 59 year model. Friction 1/25 scale plastic body car models were made in 1948 if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if they were made earlier than that. By the early '50's friction 1/25 scale models became very popular. The bumper looks like it's diecast to me. I'm not sure if the body is diecast or plastic.
It is a beautiful vintage model!
Sorry I didn't get back sooner...
The car is very close to 1/24 scale, and made of metal all around. The hubcaps have Ford on them, the tires are rubber-like, and it is a free-rolling vehicle. I found an auction with a similar car (different make) by the same company a few weeks ago.
The front window, and the basics of the grille indicate a mid-40's Ford, but other details tell me it's not quite as accurate being a toy. It was a promotional piece, obviously, with 25th Anniversary written on the side. From what I've dug up on the Net, the Green Island Plant made radiators and springs. My great-grandfather lived in Troy, and worked there from when the plant opened until he retired.
I will get a pic of the base later. It is metal, but not the same as the rest of the car. More like a thin steel plate.
VWowner 09-20-2007, 08:46 AM Great piece to have and nice to keep it in the family. These were early promotional pieces and are highly collectible. Saw a few at the Auburn Indiana swaps with some nice price tags attached. Look foreward to seeing a pict of the bottom.....Now don't go and attach a pair of nacals and a front deflector to this Owl... :woohoo:

No Nacelles, Ron, but it does sorta take you back to that gangster episode in the original series. "A Piece of the Action". And who needs a front deflector with a grill like that?? ;)
black sunshine 09-20-2007, 10:06 AM That's a really cool piece!!!!!

Thanks for the additional pics!
Your model is truly a conversation piece in your collection!
Lummox 09-20-2007, 05:29 PM So it IS a promotional piece ~ I wonder if it's a promotional in the sense that they
gave them away at the dealer ~ a dealer promo.
jlightning 09-29-2007, 12:03 PM That is a very very cool car!!!
JasonZ 09-29-2007, 02:13 PM Thats a cool car!!! It looks like new!
Naw, up close it's got lots of little dings and marks, being grabbed at by a long list of little hands...
It's on a shelf in the family room high enough to avoid the wee folk, but within range of those who might like a good look at it.
