I'm building a go-kart for the first time. I got a pile of parts (some good, some bad, some just plain ugly) from my brother-in-law and very little explanation. Most of it not so hard, but the cutoff switch has me fuddled. Where does it connect, and how does it work? Links, diagrams, explanations all welcome....

Use a standard 2 pole on-off toggle switch. From pole 1 on switch run a wire to the coil wire, and from pole 2 on the switch run a wire to the frame of the gokart. When the switch is in the on position the motor will run. When the switch is in the off position it will ground the coil and kill engine.

Grounding the coil kills the engine! Thanks, that's exactly what I needed. Now I'm pretty sure I know what to do.

Cheers!

I tried it out today. I found the connector post for the coil, and grounded it to the frame of the motor and it fell right to sleep. Thanks again!
