That's 17.5 with the 3200 ORION LiPo versus the 10.5 / 4 cell

We keep talking about how close these two classes are speed wise...well here's a head to head with some VERY GOOD drivers - and TQ was the same person in BOTH classes.

I don't have the qualifying results - but look closely at the LAP TIMES in the mains...

Good Data, thanks. I just pick up my 17.5 Saturady at the LHS.

Finally, a good comparison of both combinations. Thanks.

My guess is its a 150 ft runline. Running wide open with the 17.5 and back peddlin a 10.5

If you have to lift the 4300 then you will have to lift the 17.5. they are the same speed and from my runs with both you drive them the same.

last time I measure this track they had about a 170 run line. They do change it up just a bit, but the 170 is usually about the shortest...

WHAT Happened to you Keith?

(oh, and it is a flat asphalt track)

17.5/lipo is so close to 10.5/4-cell! You drive them the same way. We finially got back to our local banked track this last weekend and we have same results as guys from CA. 56 laps are normall for RCSM in 4-cell/10.5 we ran 55-56 laps first time out on track. Which it's been close for 3 months so there is 0 rubber on track and we are running same lap times...

The mains are a little bit off. A few of us ran faster in qualifying than the mains. The printout for the qualifying order for the mains looked great. It was a really close field in both lipo and 4 cell.

you should run them together!

How do you gear the 17.5 Lipo vs the 4300? Is it the same or what? I would like to do this but don't know where to start on rollout, how would it compare to the 10.5?

17.5/lipo is usually a few teeth higher than 4300/4cell. try 3-4 more teeth to start with.

We run on a 200' banked track 10.5 we would rollout @ 3.05 17.5 still playing with it but we ran last weekend top 3 cars nose to tail for 4min. with rollouts from 3.15, 3.35, 3.45 I would start out with 3-4 teeth and go from there.

You guys were dead on with the gearing, 3 teeth higher and it was really fast, as fast as the 4300's and some 5800's, and it was at 151 degrees, so I can probably go to 4 teeth without any problem and be really fast!!!

Cool!~ Hope you enjoyed the class....(It's kinda fun isn't it?)

How are the 17.5's with 4 cells? Is it comparable to 27t brushed?

RBLove,

This is what Bryan Blaser found at HotRod Hobbies here in CA with the 17.5 on 4 cell

27-turn exp-stock track record at Hot Rod Hobbies I think it is about 220 feet long is 54/5.03 laps only Paul C. has gone 54 laps I’m close my best is 53/5.01 lap times start at 5.5 to 5.8s

I tested when the track about 82 deg clean and empty no other cars

2.25 size tire

17.5 4 cell new pack good
5.6 to 5.9s
88/49
52/5.02 laps
166 deg

So I would say it's pretty dang close to a 27 turn motor... A lap slower on it's first try...so once you run it enough to NAIL the gearing...I'm sure it would be a bit quicker and with other cars pushing the adrenalin...it would probably pick up a tick more too.

I am starting to notice alot of discussion at tracks related to what motor/battery combinations are relative equal to what other combos.
Such as some to info posted earlier in this thread. Since I have been preaching lipo I have been getting phone calls asking what motor and what battery will run like what current class? Has anyone made a matrix that would easily show someone who say was a historically 4 cell stock oval racer what battery and motor would be approx. equal to what they are used to racing.

something like 4 cell 27t stock would be equal to 13.5 4 cell stock or 21.5 lipo.

It seems from the questions I have been asked, they are trying to use the traditioanl terms "stock", "19T" and "mod", with brushless and lipo those are antiquated terms. One racers asked me what brushless motor is the "stock" one, I suggested he buy a 13.5, a 17.5 and a 21.5 and then what ever battery he uses and track he would run at he would have a "stock like" speed.

13.5's are faster than stock lap times, at our track....

27T - 4.2
13.5 - 4.0
19T - 3.8
10.5 - 3.8

Mike, are those all 4 cell times?

Mayhem

we're finding 13.5 is a couple tenths faster than stock, with 17.5 at least as fast as stock.

98Ron,

I would have to say the times Mike posted would be consistant w/ 4 cell times.

For 6 cell or LIPO voltage (with a 3200 lipo) the 21.5 motor that NOVAK will be releasing in just a couple weeks (On ShopATron) will be really close to 4 cell STOCK speeds (so far just a tick faster)

The 17.5 on LIPO runs like a 10.5 on 4 cell (and/or close to a 19t)

The 10.5 on LIPO runs about like a 7 turn on 4 cell.

The 3.5 on LIPO runs like (YIKES - HOLD ON cause this thing is INSANE)

Where does the 13.5 fit in?

brian0525
09-24-2007, 03:27 PM
13.5 Lipo is like a 9 or 10 turn brushed motor with 4 cells.

Ya, I love it! You don't have to mess with the motors or the batteries now, just work on the set up! They haven't given in to a class here yet but it has to happen. I practiced with it about 12 minutes (2 times on track) and still had 7.06 volts in the battery without any repeaking!!
