View Full Version : Real Racing w/ RC Ties
fivsomwhere 09-14-2007, 08:34 PM I was just wondering how many of our R/C manufacturers race big cars also? Have always been interested in who does and who doesn't. I understand the Tony Stewart/Custom Works connection. Are there anymore like this?
swtour 09-14-2007, 08:47 PM ...don't know about MFGs, but we've got one of RCR's developmental drivers for the WEST Series who races RC with us. Plus a former Winston West Champion who also races with us...
David Mayhew is the developmental driver and Sean Woodside is the former Champion in the Winston West Series.
MAYHEW can drive ANYTHING he gets behind the wheel of so far...I'm hoping to see him get a chance to MOVE UP sometime in '08.
I know there are some other guys who race and mfg, and have or do run full scale (I believe Bill from the ORL races a Dirt Late Model)
Randy from BigBoysToys who does a lot of custome RC Machine work, builds a lot of the VELO cars for the guys out here..and use to build one AWESOME Sprint Car conversion for the old RC10 back in the day - I believe was a MIDGET driver.
MURDOCKRC 09-14-2007, 09:07 PM Where I have run into the big difference from real cars to R/C is where the weight is. Real cars have an engine in the front where as r/c is in the rear over the axle, mounted in a moving pod. Some things cross over, some do not in my experience. The way we use stagger in R/C can also be different. You have to think backwards on your rear shocks because the left rear on r/c is the right rear on real cars. I have found that making a pan car fast most of the time you have to use more of a sprint car mentality in the set ups because of power to weight ratio's and full throttle turning. Mix Sprint stuff with a little late model thought and getty up.
this does not always hold true but that is how I go about things

swtour 09-15-2007, 01:45 AM ...Rob has me confused... :) (I think he responded to the wrong thread) LOL
MURDOCKRC 09-15-2007, 08:32 AM No, just explaining my view on differences. I was around late models for some time.

Is Mayhew actually signed with RCR or just with Golden Gate? Last I heard Ryan Foster still had the RCR contract even though he was released from GGRT.
oldtimer 09-17-2007, 08:35 PM What about frank polimeda. He races sprints and mod cars here in the east also the best darn wheel i have ever seen
rickster58 09-17-2007, 11:00 PM Justin Belfiore is a battery guys and races, in addition to running a supermodified.

Not Sure - I know Mayhew finised 2nd at the FINAL at ALTMONT Saturday in the 21 GGRT car and trying to find info on the WEST series is sometimes a PAIN~
But this is from the GGRT web site
http://www.goldengateracingteam.com/driverprofile.htm
I think GGRT and RCR are still working together but even if no he is the real deal and I bet he will be going somewhere soon. He and Ickler are the best out West right now.
You can get some info on the West at Racingwest.com, thats where I go for my fix.
swtour 09-18-2007, 02:33 AM CSB,
That's where I get mine too, just sometimes it seems to be slow in coming...
GGRT shows like BMR as being a RCR Development team.... I was reading on their site where David was running at INFINEON not long ago.
I haven't seen ANYTHING he can't drive...from Go KARTS - to LATE MODELS - Open wheels to ANY type of RC Car. (I'd like to see him TRY a dirt late model - NOW That would be a TEST) He is still shown as a driver for VICTORY CIRCLE CHASSIS' and they have an AWESOME DLM chassis right now.
JH Racing 09-18-2007, 03:07 AM Better Than Rocket?
swtour 09-18-2007, 03:23 AM ...good enough to get several ROCKET drivers to switch...
Look at what Billy Moyer is running
JH Racing 09-18-2007, 04:13 AM Hate to tell ya but four of the top five cars in the Woo points are Rocket Chassis.
swtour 09-18-2007, 11:17 AM JHR,
I understand that - and the Victory Circle cars are pretty new to the MID-WEST from what I understand. They are a West Coast based chassis company.
The ROCKET had/has been the Chassis of Choice out here too for quite sometime I believe...but we're seeing a lot of changes...(Too much like RC - LOL)
I heard that Moyer will be building and running his own cars next year, and that as of now he owns the only Victory Circle M1.
Rocket is still the chassis of choice for those that cant get hooked up with Bloomquist. Jimmy Owens is killing it in his Bloomer cars, and so is Chris Madden. Word is Shanon Buckingham ordered a pair of Bloomers and will be really hitting the super lates hard next season.
Just a few more involved in RC - Harvick, Bowyer, Newman, Earnhardt, Todd Bodine, Edwards, found pics of all of them getting involved at the 'Birds.
JH Racing 09-19-2007, 03:20 AM BloomQuist is awesome hands down.
