View Full Version : Bunch of Parts in a Box
Tim Mc 09-13-2007, 10:21 PM If anyone here raced 1/10 scale over the years, you certainly built your own cars from a ton of tiny parts, a short manual with poorly illustration pictures. So, why do we expect the 1/4 scale mfgs to deliver our cars 90% RTR? Would we not learn more by assembling our own chassis by a manual? I know I sure would have.
Would you order an un-assembled 1/4 scale just to get the experince of assembly?
Tim
big maestro 09-13-2007, 11:00 PM I agree a 100%. Not only will you get to know the car better but you will get it quicker and hopfully alittle cheaper. They used to offer the cars way back when in kit form.
Mike Clark 09-14-2007, 12:52 AM When I found out what the delivery time was on my Pro1, I fell out. I begged Tim to send it to me in a box to assemble. For some of us the assemble is half of the fun.
The manufacturers should make it easy on themselves and make assemble an option at least!
I hate to say it but RTR is rapidly taking over everything. What a shame.

It is the "Microwave Generation Syndrome" as I like to call it. The people of today, young and old(er) alike, do not want to wait for anything. They want to be able to buy an R/C car, take it home and run it. Same for most other things. Do you ever catch yourself tapping your fingers for the microwave?
In short, we have become very impatient as a whole.
NOW HURRY UP I WANT TO RACE!!!
jeffdavis38 09-14-2007, 01:22 AM I'm going to offer a complete RTR 1/4 scale Pro1 kit. It will be around $2400.00 with a PCM Radio. $2600.00 with a 3PK. All kits will include battery, charger, servos, fuel bottle, and all wiring. Completely RTR just charge and gas and GO.
It will all be top of the line parts. No short cuts here.
Slider 09-14-2007, 07:32 AM RTR. Is the way for some folks. But what will they learn about the car.
I personally would prefer a kit car.Nothing beats hands on experience on getting to know to assebly one. A manuel and go for it.
Makes alot easier when you have to do a repair, you know how to do it.The comfort zone.
Echeconnee 09-14-2007, 07:48 AM I don't care who you are, THAT'S FUNNY! I would buy a kit and will from Cat5 on my next car. I really want a chrome chassis!
Echeconnee 09-14-2007, 07:51 AM I wouldn't do the PCM version of the 3pk. I would get the FAAST version. I use a PCM now on my car and will be swiching very soon to FAAST. I bought a Nomadio but it doesn't have the "OH CRAP" button so for 1/4 scale I don't like it.I'm going to offer a complete RTR 1/4 scale Pro1 kit. i would stay away from the hrs system as well you are stuck with didital servos. we had a guy break his steering servos and all anyone had was regular servos and we couldn't make them work with the hrs and ended his day way to early
Tim Mc 09-14-2007, 04:18 PM Thumbs-up if you would order a 1/4 scale as a kit...not rolling.
Me
Echeconnee 09-14-2007, 05:05 PM I have HRS on my dirt oval car with analog servos, there must have been a problem with something else. I have found that the HRS does not like 4 cells in oval racing, really does some strange stuff. The FAAST is a 2.4 ghtz system and should work great. I hope it does as I am switching soon.i would stay away from the hrs system as well you are stuck with didital servos. we had a guy break his steering servos and all anyone had was regular servos and we couldn't make them work with the hrs and ended his day way to early
ScottH 09-14-2007, 08:47 PM I have tried the HRS with analog servos and burned up two of them.
The HRS DOES NOT LIKE 4-CELL, as per Futaba. They are also made for digital servos only.
The FASST system is AWESOME!!!
jeffdavis38 09-15-2007, 02:29 AM I run HRS on my QS and all Digital servos and love it. I always keep a spair servo just incase. You got to set your end points or you will have trouble in just a few laps.
