A/FX Nut 09-13-2007, 08:34 PM Hello,
I use a Plano 737 tackle box. Plus I have 3 other tackle boxes that work well. All of them are Planos. Also Wal-Mart sells 48 car storage boxes. Made for diecast cars but work great for slot cars.
The Plano 737 is a good box. Storage for plenty of cars, controllers, tools, and spare parts. It comes with 2 or 3 small containers great for small parts / spare parts. Randy.

The most important thing is to keep them out of direct sunlight and do not have them exposed to unfiltered florescant lights. Both of these will fade the color of the car, especially turning white cars into a cream/yellowish color.
I don't know about the effects of incandescant lights, but I'm guessing all unfiltered light is bad.

For storing cars you don't take to the track too often, those hotwheel/matchbox 48-car cases with the blue brackets are cool. They keep cars out of the light, and very compact.
pickeringtondad 09-13-2007, 10:25 PM Pit kit (takle box) / Afx Race Cases / Plano storage boxes and the original cases the cars came in.
If your looking for mass storage the Plano Jammer model #5315 holds 48 cars and has a slot cut into the base that makes car storage/removal easy, it also has a pretty good seal on it. These sell for about $5.00 if you can find them in a wally world or K-mart type store. You can order them direct from Plano, but you have to order 6 pieces at a time and shipping costs will raise you up to about $7.00 per car case.

sethndaddy 09-14-2007, 09:31 PM Send them to me, I'll store them and make sure they are well taking care of, LOL.
T-Jet Racer 09-14-2007, 10:35 PM If I were to store my cars now I would remove the tires place them in a plastic baggie, spray silicone spray in it to keep the tires soft. and coat all the electrical with a light coat of oil to stop oxidation. baggies for the bodies too so they stay dust free. This is assuming you will not be using them tomorrow. short termI would place them in zip lock baggies and place them in the fishing box then store in a dry no light place My opinion.
sethndaddy 09-15-2007, 09:56 PM It really don't matter, just keep razor blades and idiots away from them and they'll hold their value. really
SplitPoster 09-15-2007, 11:55 PM Man, cool, dry and not exposed to harsh light is it. I wouldn't keep stuff in a workshop either - the ozone off heavy duty electric motors (grinders etc) and volatile fumes/solvents could SLOWLY deteriorate "rubber" parts and paint.
I personally don't like putting stuff in cases, too easy to pick up, turn over, or drop. And why put them away where you can't see them if you don't have to? Spend a bunch on slots, then stick them in a kiddy case or good ol' boy tackle box? Sends the wrong message, doesn't it?
If you like your slot cars (and who doesn't?) why not display like they do stuff in stores or museums? Put them in a showcase behind tempered glass, (blocks 100% UV), or a cabinet, put your dessicant inside to keep humidity down if you need too, light from outside when you want to show them off.
videojimmy 09-16-2007, 08:40 AM I wrap mine in a lint free, chemical free 2, square inch cloths patches that are used to clean the heads of video machines, and then store them in the Matchbox cases with removable trays. This way, there's no rubbing of the bodies on the sides of the trays.
At some point, I would like to get a few of those mirrored wall cases and keep most of them on display.

Store? Are you putting these away for safe keeping or just when you're not using or racing them? I actually store mine in display cases setting on track pieces like they are parked at a 45 degree angle for viewing. If you're talking about safekeeping while you transport from racing venue to venue, I use to use the foam material customized to fit my tote box spaces so the cars would be held in place snugly. that worked well unless I knocked it off the table or something. :freak: rr

All my florescant lights have some type of covering over them so that the bulbs are not exposed. Is that sufficient?
