Oops, my scheduals all flipped around due to a 2 day first aid course I'm taking for work. Didn't realize we were a go yet. I'm on It! Where's my drill? I'll post some progress ASAP.

OK, I've disassembled and glued the lights on. I will detampo and add some paint details tonight and post progress tomorrow.

I'll also find better lighting.

You tore that sumbitch APART!!!

Are those rear tires from the '49 Merc?
I'm using those as well. They're perfect!

What rims are you using, fREKeonE? (:p )

Your in there! Everyone is ahead of me. I have no vice. I thought about just trying to hold it and was talked right out of it. A friend at work is bringing me one tomorrow night. You keeping the engine? I'm undecided.

The engine wouldn't look TOO bad detailed.
You could spray (or brush) it orange or sumthin and detail paint it from there.

The wheels are off the Barris Emperor, they are skinny front and back. I thought I had wider white walls but nope all I have are skinnies. If they don't look "right" I will in true rat rod tradition use them till I can affford an upgrade;) . As for rims I'm thinking of using red steelies off the red Dodge 330. I will sand down the back of the rims and glue them to the backing piece attached to the axles in order to fit them in the skinnies and still have them look right.

I'm probably going to use the stock engine but if I can fabricate a more apropriate exhaust I was thinking of using the engine from the Emperor as it is a 6 cylinder and has those neat stacks out the top. The exhaust is too show roddy (?) for this project. I'd also have to unchrome it quite a bit. I might just save the Emperor engine for another rat project I want to do.

You want the front meats of the Coke truck? I can put them in the mail on my way to work tomorrow. Same size as the rear.

The gen-u-ine old-time rods had skinnies all around
as nothing wide was available in the '40s & fifties.
They were called "bigs and littles".
Tall in the back and not so tall up front.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't use whatever the hayell you want!

BTW... If anyone has an extra windshield for this casting I could use one for my Hot Rod red and white one that got knocked on the floor. (Cats!).

Thanks for the offer Bob, I'm going for the skinny ones now but if I want to change them I'll take you up on that later. I do have good news though, I do have an extra windshield for you. It is still attached to a casting but I have 2 so if you PM me your addy I'll send you the whole casting.

Hi guys, I'm going away for the week-end so I thought I'd post my progress so far and catch up when I get back.

I detailed the rims and sanded the bach of them and the hubs they slip over to attach them to the car. This let them sit more into the tire which I think looks better.
I have painted the engine block red but it's still drying so no picture for now.
Good luck on yours and I'll see y'all Monday!

P.S. these are not the wheels I'm using they are just for mock up. I scratched a white wall on the real ones which I will have to touch up and didn't want to make them worse.

Finally finished it up. I kept it pretty simple for pure enjoyment, 2 other projects I'm doing are more tedious and I just wanted this to be fun so no wiring or anything. Hope you enjoy!

AWESOME JOB! I've been following all of these posts and am working on one myself, but yours is awesome. What did you use for the radiator hose?

Can't wait to see everyone else's cars!

I found a bit of electrical wire that when bent held its shape. I stripped both ends after cutting it to length and inserted the copper wire into little 1/32 holes I made in the engine and radiator. This allowed for a secure hold with epoxy only on one end. I can get pretty messy with the epoxy so anyway of reducing the amount needed is good.

This was a good choice for starting people into customizing, a lot of fun with a drastic change in appearance. Thanks go to Lummox for getting this going. Anyone wanting to get into customizing should try this one.

I look forward to seeing yours too.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.
