Can someone with a better memory than mine place the music heard in the last two-thirds of this Sunshine trailer?
Trailer (http://www.foxmedia.se/films/Sunshine/trailer/trailer480_2.mov)
My research has turned up that the track is called "Requiem for a Tower", but that's not enough. I know I've heard it before - recently. Has it been in another film or, more likely, another trailer? Anyone else recognize this?? Initially, I thought maybe the Narnia trailer or 300, but NO.

Well, you've come to the right place.
The company I work for cut that trailer. The track in question is from The Two Towers soundtrack. Studio marketing execs love it because it tests well with audiences, and for that reason it is annoyingly over-used.

I'm surprised there's been no talk about Sunshine on this board. Or did I miss the thread? Haven't seen it myself.

I had intended to post a Sunshine discussion thread, but given the film's oddly limited release I decided it might be better to wait for the dvd release.
For some reason the studio killed this film, and I'm still trying to find out why. Dramatically Sunshine has it's share of problems (particularly in the third act), but the first two thirds of the film work quite well, and in any case the Fox marketing department has A LOT of experience opening movies a lot more problematic than this. Given the thought-provoking sci-fi thriller premise, and the Danny Boyle pedigree, Sunshine would most likely have found an audience had it been given half a chance.
When a distributor goes out of its way to dump a film in this manner it's usually for political reasons as oposed to commercial ones (remember the non-release of Iron Giant)?
At any rate, "real" sci-fi movies are a rare commodity, and Sunshine is sure to find its share of fans on this board. Once it hits dvd shelves, that is.

I got to see Sunshine in China. I enjoyed it, problems and all.

THAT'S IT! Thanks for refreshing my memory. And to those of us not in "the business", I don't recall it elsewhere and still enjoy it. What other trailers have used this track?

Go to Wikipedia and run a search for Lux Aeterna (Requiem for a Dream).
For whatever reason it won't let me post a direct link, but cutting and pasting the addy below should get you there...

BTW, I had completely forgotten that we orchestrated that version of the piece in-house, and that it is not actually heard in The Two Towers.
It's funny... I worked on the LOTR campaign for the better part of five years, but 100 or so movies later it's all just a blur. :freak: :)
