View Full Version : Fun for the whole family: The Worst Possible Casting Game.
frankenstyrene 09-09-2007, 04:23 PM One rule: a submission has to be bad, but just barely plausible enough that it just might happen, if only in the bong-addled minds of Hollywood's casting Borg who might seriously consider it. Me first:
Jim Carrey as Doc Savage.
When we're tapped for ideas, a poll will decide which idea is the worst (thus, in some infernal way, ensuring it will actually happen for Summer 2010).
Next?
CJTORINO 09-09-2007, 04:51 PM Cajun Chef Paul Prudhomme stars as "The Thin Man".

Wait a minute. You mean they're not actually the same person?
Jack Black as James Bond.
Griffworks 09-09-2007, 06:31 PM Mark Wahlberg is "The Punisher"! Co-starring Luke Perry as (The Bad Guy) and Paris Hilton as (his love interest)
Hulk Hogan in "President Daddy"
scotpens 09-09-2007, 07:10 PM Adam Sandler, Owen Wilson and Jessica Simpson in an updated remake of Some Like It Hot. With a cameo by Tony Curtis as somebody's grandpa.

Or grandma.
frankenstyrene 09-09-2007, 07:29 PM Christian Slater as The Sub-Mariner
That, or whasisname from Ed Wood and them pirate movies (I'm blanking out here, sorry), are two they'd actually think about.
frankenstyrene 09-09-2007, 07:31 PM Will Smith as Robert Neville, I AM LEGEND.
I just cursed us all, didn't I.
Griffworks 09-09-2007, 07:48 PM Hey, at least the trailer for the movie that I've sen doesn't look too bad! And Will Smith isn't too bad an actor. I really enjoyed Pursuit of Happyness.
BEBruns 09-09-2007, 07:53 PM Will Smith as Robert Neville, I AM LEGEND.

Considering that a number of years ago, the movie was almost made with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead, this isn't even the worst possible casting for this movie.

I did too, just now. Looked tecnically good (what there was of it) but these days, what movie doesn't. At this point I'll take Chuck Heston.
PoH was one I thought Smith knocked outta the park. But there's just some parts some actors ain't right for...he's no more right for this part than he was for WWW.
Never thought I'd say this, but if he actually has the range to pull off what's in the book - much of which of necessity won't be in the movie - Kevin Costner might could actually play a good Neville. Yeah, I said it - still can't believe it but I'm reading it on the internets so it must be true.
frankenstyrene 09-09-2007, 08:04 PM Considering that a number of years ago, the movie was almost made with Arnold Schwartzenegger in the lead, this isn't even the worst possible casting for this movie.
True, but with the Schwartz, there should have been no illusions on anyone's part that it would be an even half-serious attempt to bring Matheson's book to life, any more than RUNNING MAN did so with the original story. Just another Arnie blow-em-up, and could be dismissed as such until serious adults stepped up to do I AM LEGEND right.
Smith's version, on the other hand, so far appears to be just such a serious attempt. Which will make it hurt all the more. Arnie's would've been a simple paper cut...Smith's will be that plus some nice lemon juice on top.
scotpens 09-09-2007, 09:06 PM Not so much a bad casting idea as a bad movie idea: Chris Rock in My Mother, the Car: The Movie!
With Oprah Winfrey as the voice of Mother, and a 1971 Cadillac Eldorado convertible as the car!
Naah, forget it. It's too good.
Zorro 09-09-2007, 09:45 PM That, or whasisname from Ed Wood and them pirate movies (I'm blanking out here, sorry), are two they'd actually think about.
What makes Slater unlikely is that his career is so deep in the toilet. He does have the eybrows though.
John P 09-10-2007, 07:44 AM Jennifer Love Hewitt as Audrey Hepburn.
Oh wait....
(I'm always gonna dwell on that - how can you cast the most buxom woman available for the classic "gamine" Hepburn?! Especially when Winona Rider is the perfect perfect perfect choice!)
Carson Dyle 09-10-2007, 09:57 AM David Soul as Richard Blane (aka Humphrey Bogart).
I still haven't gotten over that one.
Star Trek - VOYAGER..The Movie
Janeway - Nicole Kidman
Chekotay- Adam Sandler
7 of 9 - Paris Hilton
Doctor - James Carville
B'Elanna Torres- Rachel Ray
Tom Paris- Luke Perry
Neelix - Emeril L'egase
Tuvok - Chris Tucker
Harry Kim - Jackie Chan
terryr 09-10-2007, 11:01 AM I don't think I could beat some of the choices Hollywood has made so far. So often, they think about the 'deal' and not about the movie.
On the other hand. some movies we really like got the 3rd or 4th choice for actors, and they turned out great.
How about 'worst producer for a movie'.
Trek Ace 09-10-2007, 12:21 PM Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau.
John P 09-10-2007, 12:38 PM Will Smith as James We.... no, I can't even type it without crying.
BEBruns 09-10-2007, 12:55 PM Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau.
Anyone other than Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau.
PhilipMarlowe 09-10-2007, 12:58 PM David Soul as Richard Blane (aka Humphrey Bogart).
I still haven't gotten over that one.
Yerah, I always wondered what the hell Soul was thinking, "Yeah, it's probably the most beloved movie of all times, and Bogarts most iconic and beloved performance. But dammit, people really like "Don't Give Up on Us Baby"!".
And don't forget Hector Elizondo in the Claude Rains part, I don't expect much from "Hutch" but Hector's a good enough actor he should have known better.
Hmmm..... I was waching The Dirty Dozen last weekend. Are there 12 guys who could be IN that kind of movie anymore?

You could, but it wouldn't be easy.
The closest thing we have to Lee Marvin is probably someone like Sean Penn or Russel Crowe. Maybe Bruce Willis on a good day.
Suffice it to say they don't make tough guys like they used to.
Eric K 09-10-2007, 02:35 PM Ok, Anthony.....Yer one sick puppy...LOL
frankenstyrene 09-10-2007, 05:28 PM Jennifer Love Hewitt as Audrey Hepburn.
Oh wait....
(I'm always gonna dwell on that - how can you cast the most buxom woman available for the classic "gamine" Hepburn?! Especially when Winona Rider is the perfect perfect perfect choice!)
"Gamine" must be a synonym for "vaguely manlike" I'm unfamiliar with. Hm. Learn something everyday here at HobbyTalk.
Carson Dyle 09-10-2007, 05:33 PM Hey, leave Jennifer alone. :)
Granted she's no Audrey Hepburn (who is?), but I've met the lady and a she-man she's not.
Zorro 09-10-2007, 06:24 PM You could, but it wouldn't be easy.

And they don't make man-mountain "actors" quite like Clint Walker either. In fact, they never did. Crowe's about the only guy I can think of who could give Marvin a run for his money. Maybe Steve Buscemi as Franko. Vin Deisel as Maggot. And John Leguizamo as Trini Lopez.
Carson Dyle 09-10-2007, 07:02 PM Yeah, I avoided Buscemi as Franko because he's become such a cliche in that type of roll. Ditto Michael Clarke Duncan for the Walker part.
Benicio Del Toro might be interesting in the Cassevetes roll...
And I see Nick Nolte as Ernest Borgnine. ;)
Roland 09-10-2007, 07:48 PM Bela Lugosi as the monster in James Whale's Frankenstein. Thank god Bela turned it down. He was bad in Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman.
omnimodel 09-10-2007, 08:11 PM Anybody else feel Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman fits into this category?
Carson Dyle 09-10-2007, 08:15 PM ^Yeah, but the movie would still suck no matter who was cast.
John P 09-10-2007, 08:33 PM "Gamine" must be a synonym for "vaguely manlike" I'm unfamiliar with. Hm. Learn something everyday here at HobbyTalk.
*Sigh* Do I have to do all the work?
From Wiki:
Gamine is a French word, the feminine form of gamin, originally meaning urchin, waif or playful, naughty child.
The word was used in English from about the mid 19th century (for example, by Thackeray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Makepeace_Thackeray) in 1840 in one of his Parisian sketches), but, in the 20th century, came to be applied in its more modern sense of a slim, often boyish, wide-eyed young woman who is, or is perceived to be, mischievous, teasing or sexually appealing.
In other words, someone slender and small, NOT someone built like Love.

OH you lucky bastich!!!
El Gato 09-11-2007, 11:02 AM ^ Stole the words right out of my keyboard, John P

I did those for a photoshop contest on Woot.com about a year ago. MMTC came in second.
A
frankenstyrene 09-11-2007, 05:28 PM Fine, split that hair: she was boy-like, not man-like. Whichever, she was never physically appealing to me. Great actress, tho.
Carson Dyle 09-11-2007, 05:43 PM Fine, split that hair: she was boy-like, not man-like.
Boy-like.
Gotcha.
chiangkaishecky 09-11-2007, 06:21 PM Well since payne first referred to Hepburn as "gamine" after which franken' laid down his "manlike" bit I believe franken' was and still is referring to Hepburn not Hewitt.
Further, however comely Hewitt may or may not be, I don't think anyone could think franken' was referring to Hewitt when he says "Great actress, tho" a couple of posts above.
Carson Dyle 09-11-2007, 07:29 PM I stand corrected.
Griffworks 09-11-2007, 07:56 PM That and other movies starring a younger Audrey Hepburn are what I think of most of the time I imagine her, with one exception - Rooster Cogburn. :D
Yeah, I think someone's getting Audrey Hepburn confused with Katharine Hepburn (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000031/). ;)
For those who might well be confused, Audrey Hepburn's IMDb entry. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000030/) Given her repertoire of movies, I can't imagine anyone thinking of Audrey Hepburn as "manlike" in any sense of the word in any role I ever saw her in. :)
Carson Dyle 09-11-2007, 08:12 PM Ms. Hepburn (Audrey, not Kate) stars in Charade, which is one of my favorite movies, and the source of my nom de plume.
PhilipMarlowe 09-11-2007, 09:21 PM Audrey was pretty appealling in the original Sabrina, though she was always thin she did fill out a pair of pants nicely.
Carson Dyle 09-11-2007, 09:36 PM Yeah, she was slender but she still had hips. It's a fetching combination IMO.
