Just like racing packs, do I only charge them, race and leave remaining energy on pack and charge again ? (only discharge just before another charge if necessary)

Treat them like racing packs and your good. just one point, do NOT discharge just be fore charging, discharge before storing. you have to allow the cells time to stabilize after discharging, before charging. I know what the industry says. leave them with a charge in them etc. even if you discharge to .9 v per cell the cell will climb back up in voltage until it reaches a point of stabilization, so you are leaving a charge in them for storage(between race days) and allowing the cell to chemicaly stabilize before you charge again.I beleive this practice of discharging just before charging is part of the reason people are having so many problems with cells going bad. that and charging at too much amperage. I am a fan of charging Nimh cells @ no more than3-4 amps, some people charge @ 5-6 amps to get added capacity and a little more punch off the line, But they end up sacrificing the life of the battery.

OK that would make sense. If I only have 2-3 sport packs (using them 2 times per day) do I simply leave them the way they are after their 1st run, then do another peak charge and run THEN discharge for good or is it another way to ruin these packs?

That is really amatter of your time limits. If posible discharge them and allow them to stabilize ( at least an hour or so) before charging them again. if you do not have time to discharge them just let them stabilize between charges. I dont like doing this because Nimh cells seem to be softer with less punch out of the hole if not discharged to .9 v between charges. They also seem to be typically softer on the second charge of the day no matter how you do it. I try and keep enough packs on hand to run them only 1 time a day so I dont have to worry about it, but if your on a budget you gotta do what is called for. I personally keep a couple 1500 mah sport packs around ( 8.00per pack @ tower hobbies)for practice and leave my race packs for racing so come race time I know there is no possibility of over using,or abusing any of my race packs .But at the end of the day or when I get home I will discharge them to.9v per cell for storage untill the next race day.I also beleive that this practice helps even unmatched packs become equalized between the cells as far as average voltage and run time over the course of a few cycles wich results in longer run times and more consistant average voltage within the pack.

The great things about NiMh packs is that they are tough. They don't care if you leave them charged when you are done racing or bashing for the the day.
Every one has a different rule of thumb on the matter.
I use the same pack in my race car all day long. Let it cool and repeak. Unless you are up in the upper level of racing you will never be able to tell.
For bashing... if you have extended periods between sessions, leave a little in the battery during storage.
Discharge, let them cool and then recharge for best performance.
You did not say what amperage you are charging at.

I guess for bashing we'd use smaller chargers like Peak Vision 2 - we'd go for 4 Amp. charging.

I'd draw a very litle indoor oval, pan car with stock motor. Ratio around 6.0 to keep cars slow and easy to control. I'd also stick to 3000 MAH batts since it never really takes longer than 2000s & 2400s (around 1/2 hour) to charge.
3 packs would be best: ample time to discharge and recharge OR repeak between runs.
