Looks as if some of us owners of older style(2002-2006) WCM's could retro-fit the cage on our existing chassis'?

Yes you can update your older version 2002 to 2005 cars .WCM still offers both versions of the gn car. The 2007 chassis [NONroll cage ]has been updated to a laydown motor plate , new clutch bell housing ,and a better throt&brake servo plate, new shocks ,This car is awsume,

After Kevin Burd got his new WCM .He seen one of these[rollcage car], at Algona ,and had me call to see if he could get a roller kit , as he wasnt sure about his new car yet ? Well after his last pratice he is sure ,
WCM will sell the rollcage car kit, as a roller no motor or shocks, body , it is just a roller kit , for 950.00 or if you want you can buy just the chassis .for 425.00 [at this time] + shipping . thankyou to all of our customers

Can you order the cage kit...weld it yourself? Also, are the new chassis brazed, mig or tig welded?

Thanks,
Tim

I wonder if you can remove the frame rail above the clutch so you can take the motor out complete. Like we can with our 4 stroke chassis, and not reduce the strength of the chassis.

a buddy of mine ordered one exactly that way. it opens the clutch side to make it easy to work on. he did go to a larger dia. bottom rail on that side to add a little strength. there were a few other changes to add strength back in as well and it ended up waying a little more than his older chassis.

Now that's a unique location for the fuel tank.

09-06-2007, 09:15 AM
Well, I gota tell ya, Bob told me where he put his fuel tank and I thought the same thing you are all probably thinking too. I put mine there and I haven't moved it since. The car works better in my 2005 WCM. Thanks Bob! From the other side of the USA.

Tim Mc

I've never tried that location, but I'll try anything when it comes to handling.

Has anyone ever weighed their fuel tank (8oz) full of a mix? I think gas weighs about 6 or 7 lbs per gallon....right?

That location stands to reason as long as the car still conforms to the QSAC 45%/55% left to right weight bias rule. Surely the fuel doen't weigh enough to make that big a difference?

I mount my 5 cell reciever pack on the left rear of the side pod because it is heavy as it won't loose wieght like burning fuel off.

I'm with Dave on this one! Problem is the fuel goes away and the weight bias changes making the set-up change all thru the race. If anything I would want weight to be added at that spot during the race not taken away! I mount my fuel tank in the middle right in front of the engine.
As Cliff said will it conform to the qsac weight bias rules? I would think that it would since most WCM's or any of the cars for that matter need about 2 lbs of added left side weight to just make it a 52% left side bias! That's a lot of weight but it does work and make the car handle better! Static weight and rolling weight mean different things!
I like the looks of this new car. Kind of resembles the Cracker car but with WCM parts are not an issue! I look for this to be a HUGE seller!
Good luck Rick, I hope you have plenty of help! Looks like your going to need it!

Good points both. I found that in a 150 lap race or 75 for that matter, that the left rear does not get the heat in the first 5 - 10 laps, then it gets hotter. This makes the car want to push coming off the corner (a small amount). I've located my tank in 4 different places in the last year and half. since I've located it in the left rear, it has proven to be more consistant through the race. Also when there is a caution (like that never happens) the extra weight in the left gets you up to speed faster than in having it other areas.

This is all personal preferance and how you drive and how the race goes for that matter. I reality, there is very little difference no matter where you put it. If it is located in the center, left, or right or laying flat as I see most do in the CramCracker cars, when the gas burns off the car will get loose or push depending on the setup.

So good points everyone, there are always more than one way to flip a burger. (didn't want to say skin a cat) DOAH!!

Good information guys! I'll give it a try on my sons WCM. I would like to update a 2003 chassis with the cage kit. I hear of a dirt oval being built in Easley and it would make a nice looking latemodel or East Coast Mod!

Rattler

QSAC used to check during pre race inspection whether it's still done or not, I couldn't say! Knowing what your percentages are for your own good is well worth knowing if you ask me because it DOES make a difference in how a car performs! Most every new car I see comes out of the shop with less than 50% left side weight even the Cracker car believe it or not!

WCM will do just about what ever color you want. He has the Red & Black as the standard colors. But the other colors may take longer. Can't wait to get mine. It has its own style. Hope to make the Texas Race NCS #6

A....er....Rattler's right. You'll have a hard time getting all the weight bias on the left side. The engine flywheel is the killer.

Bias will be checked in Dallas.

The guy that owns this car plans on using LIPO cells to make up for the extra weight of the chassis ,One of the cars that i sold to a team mate in IOWA ,weighed his car the the new non rollcage car and he says it is still heavy on the right side , My reason for putting it there is with my set up in my car is a little loose the first couple laps ,this seems to help as the race goes on ,then it is just left side weight ,Bye the way the new rollcage car is finished all except for paint on body [ Shaun s ] job ,,,,Some great replys and comments
Thanks ,,,,Robert Knox ,, Knoxmotorsports

Well I ran the car this weekend and all I can say is WOW!! This car is awsome. I am not the most expereiced 1/4 scale driver (I have 7 yrs experince driving touring cars) but this car drives itself. Bob set the car up with the same setup he runs on the regular chassis and it worked like a DREAM. I was running consistant times about .2 off the fast car times and that was with a break in plug and non synthetic 2 cycle oil (motor break in). This new WCM is a fantastic car and if you want to get a quality setup and more help than you could ever want, look to Knoxmotorsports.
