I am trying to do a custom 80's monte carlo (jl casting)
I want to make it look more like a drag car and I think it sits a little too high.
I was wondering if someone could explain to me how to lower a car?
thanks in advance

Here is an easy way that I have found. I went to a hobby store and picked up some small aluminum tubing that the axle will fit into. Cut the tubing to the length you want and then cut the axle in the middle and/or trim what you dont want from it. Insert the axle into the tubing and crimp. Now use JB Weld or whatever you use and glue it on top of the slot where the normal axle sits in. You may have to tweek a little to get your desired look.
Hope this helps.

96gsfan is correct in his recommendations. The size of aluminum tubing he is talking about is 1/16 of an inch. That's about the smallest tubing available and one should be able to find it at hobby or hardware stores. I found mine at an ACE hardware store. The tubing that I found was made by a company out of Chicago. They come in one foot sections with perhaps four per unit. Also available is brass tubing made by the same company, but that stuff is a lot stronger and more difficult to work with.
Good luck!

I like this approach, it has worked well for me also.
Another couple of ideas are to use a piece of flat plastic and simply raise the axle bed higher into the body. You will need to score a line in the plastic to act as a channel for the axle and trim the retaining pegs underneath the body work to allow for clearance. IF, and I do mean IF this all lines up, everything still rolls! And yea for rolling!
Also sometimes just a smaller profile tire will do wonders to lower the ride height of a car. The below pic is a HW Nova with a set of JL rubber tires and wheels ( complete with the JL axle and all) just dropped into place.
But if you are new to this process, the tube the guys spoke of works pretty well. Good luck and post us some pics of how it's coming along!
