In 1991 Mazda became the only Japanese manufacturer to win the 24 Hours. Nissan & Toyota tried & tried, but, never quite did it. The 787B, driven by Volker Weidler / Johnny Herbert / Bertrand Gachot, qualified in 19th place, obviously not the quickest car there, but, in the end it was victorious - the three Silk Cut Jaguars finishing in 2nd, 3rd & 4th with the sole remaining Sauber-Mercedes C11 in 5th.
The model is by HPI, a relative newcomer on the 1:43 diecast scene. Whilst the Mazda is not the most original choice, Ixo & Minichamps, for instance, have already released the car, the HPI is an excellent model - it features a removeable engine cover, underneath which is a very well detailed rear end. The cover itself fits very well with no unsightly gaps.
