View Full Version : Should I or Shouldn't I?!?!
BIGLOU75 08-31-2007, 11:56 PM I've been planning on customizing a 1/64 scale 2006 Dodge Charger into the General Lee. Now, I have a Jada Charger, but wanted to get another one so I wouldn't mess that one up. I was planning on getting one from Milezone until today. I went out and did some hunting and found a Greenlight 2006 Charger SRT8. Now I was thinking of using this one to do it, but started rethinking because I believe these Greenlights have production numbers, which I thought made them more collectible. Also, I know the Greenlight bodies are riveted on while the Jadas are screwed (no pun intended! ). Anyways, which one should I use? I think they both look great. But I think the Jada would be easier to work with.
Any opinions or advice?
If I don't use the Greenlight I plan on returning it.
'32 Deuce 09-01-2007, 06:09 AM In my experience the Jada's are easier to work on although I've never tore a Greenlight down. The screw on bases are a big convenience, easy to take off and easy to put back on. Also, if somewhere down the line you want to change something you simply unscrew it and don't have to re-drill a new rivet out or dig out JB weld or epoxy from the original rivet hole.
Also, the wheels just pop off the axles and can be swapped out fairly easy, no dremeling down the little axle tabs to free the axles and replacing and then JB'ing or epoxying the new ones.
Most Jada's also have interiors and windshields that are held in place on little tabs and usually just slide off whereas JL"s, HW's and most others are all riveted on and can be a real pain to get to and get off without damaging the piece. I've spent hours carefully drilling and dremeling to dismantle other cars but on Jada's you can sometimes take it completely apart in a matter of minutes with just a small screwdriver.
Hope this helps you out a little on your decision, good luck and be sure and post a pic when you get it done.......

snowman66 09-01-2007, 06:39 AM Why not get Brave and do them both? Rivets can be drilled out and put back with some JB WELD.
camarors 09-01-2007, 08:49 AM I drill out the rivet studs and use small self tapping screws to put everything back together. You can get this from a hobby store.
FreqE1 09-01-2007, 08:57 AM You asked so I'll give an opinion.
Do 'em both like Snowman said but start with the Jada which may be easier and use it for practice kinda. Then do the GL once you know what works or how to pull it off. When you are done you'd have some good trade bait for someone elses custom or regular casting of some sort! Trade the one you like least or they like most, see what you're offered for what and do the deal you like. Or just keep 'em both.
plankowner 09-02-2007, 02:22 PM So c'mon already...... let's see one done!
BIGLOU75 09-02-2007, 04:31 PM Well, as soon as I get the Jada one, I'll do them both at the same time. Still gotta get the paint.
bob8748 09-02-2007, 04:38 PM Keep us posted! By the way, let me know what orange paint you use if you dont mind. I still would like to make a 68 Charger that is the same color.
Ricky2400 09-03-2007, 07:33 PM I did a '06 Charger last year into the General Lee car...
Took a Matchbox Charger and after dismantling and stripping the original paint, repainted Testors' Competition Orange, then painstakingly placed the 01 decals on the front doors and flag on the roof. Unfortunately, no pics available, as I sold it several months ago, but I nicknamed it the "General Lee's Grandson".
Good luck with your project.
Rick
