View Full Version : Green Machines Rare???
JLWFAN 08-30-2007, 07:27 AM I have been watching these GM post and I'm begining to wonder just how rare these things are gonna be? Ever since Target started selling these they seem to be finding these left and right . People are posting every day finding one or two in every store. Are they flooding the market now that they have a good thing?? What are your opinions??
sonicsgp1 08-30-2007, 12:30 PM Yep, sure are. Just like another diesact company did with white lightnings.
jlspec 08-30-2007, 01:16 PM Around here even the regulars are very hard to find.

It's the American way!
Mikietom 08-30-2007, 07:52 PM I still think they are rare. The only reason several are being found each day is the release of 4 sets at 1 time.
12 MCG - A
12 MCG - B
12 PCG
6 BJAB
so you have 42 differant castings each with green machine versions - still only 2 % of the run.

Chunkamunk04 08-30-2007, 11:23 PM Even with higher production numbers like 10,000 pieces. A GM for a casting would still be limited to ONLY 200 cars (2%). Sure beats the ever livin' he!! out of T-Hunts now don't it? ;)
edseldave 08-30-2007, 11:53 PM Even with the fractionaly higher numbers , I still have yet to find one at retail !! Im lucky if I even find 1 White Lightning a year ! My local Kmart has had no new Greenlights for quite some time ... Target has a few , but most are gone . I dont have time to search every day either ..
Franklin2700 08-31-2007, 07:31 PM Seems like everything has increased dramatically - production numbers, availability, followed closely by every door warmer in the country making a b-line to the Greenlight cars to see if he / she can feed his kids that week with some added paypal funds...
I'll admit to having found 2/3 of the BJ set on a road trip to the rents house, which was pretty sweet, but I'll also admit to being jealous / disappointed of the number of GMs hitting EBay every day. Greenlight may have landed a few new collector / customers, but they doubled the competition for their most desirable pieces, and may have alienated a large number of their biggest fans (and earliest collectors).
Wasn't long ago I argued that this would hurt the secondary market for Greenlight & Green Machines (and thus the primary market, though apparently manufacturers still either fail to see or refuse to see this correlation) and it was only a matter of time before the GMs were in the same category of WLs... Sure wish I had been wrong about that one.

now thats mean. thunts are limited...to 400,000 or so! ;-)
glhshelby 08-31-2007, 10:55 PM one of my friends has yet to find a GM.
In the last month he has found 63 th`s,with 5 of them being supers.
He has also found 1 wl.
No GM`s and he got lucky enough to see all 24 of the GL`s hanging in 4 different targets locally.
So I`d still say the GM`s are pretty rare
BatFanBob 09-04-2007, 07:16 PM I've never seen a GM or a WL in the wild but then I have only been collecting a few months.....I look every day and figure sooner or later I may find one.....Only ever found 1 hunt as well....guess I ain't looking in the right places.....Bob
Firebirds 09-04-2007, 08:46 PM looks like half of them are on the HWs plus trade board at HWC.anyone looked over there?first 2 pages are drowned with GMs.
60sMetal 09-05-2007, 08:23 PM No GM's in this neck of the woods :(

It was bound to happen. Dealers were buying master cases to sell a GM on ebay and that would cover the cost of the whole case. Now that GM are $20 to $30 on E Bay for new releases that has stopped. The only reason I collected the Coronets and Concept Camaro's was because they were rare in the beginning. Before all the repaints.
JasonZ 09-27-2007, 09:44 PM I had never seen a Th, WL, or Gm yet in the wild
FastC6Vette 09-28-2007, 01:10 AM Yep, sure are. Just like another diesact company did with white lightnings.
I wouldn't call a 150-300 production run car flooding the market (for Green Machines or white lightnings). These cars are allocated around the world for MILLIONS of people. The highest I have ever seen white lightnings were in older series such as the USPS Postal, Truckin' America, Top Fuel and Stock Car Legends, etc (which was around 600-700 made).
The reason for the increase in the production run of GM's is simple - supply and demand. There was a higher demand for their cars when the series was introduced, and since they were so successful, they increased the supply to meet that consumer demand. Granted, though 200 is a 400% increase from the original 50 car run, it it still not flooding the market in any way at all. If you want to talk about flooding the market, think of Treasure Hunts! Those supposed "chase" cars have production runs at least above 100,000, and even the Super versions are around 25,000. Now how can that compare to a couple hundred cars?
silverzx3 09-28-2007, 02:39 AM From what I've read the 200 number is right but there are four different color cars on the collector cards so it's still 1 of 50 kind of.

It's not flooding the market, but it's a 300% increase.

You're right, that's what I get for posting when I am dead tired LOL.
