We are looking to start a spec class for the 4 cell pan cars but was wondering what is the best spec motor to use. We want something that the shop will not have to spend hours cutting the comms every week and something that would be a hand out motor every week when you show up to race you pick your motor fro the rest just like everyone else and then at the end of the night you turn it back in.

in our neck of the woods we use trinity spec motors with f-brushes, r-brushes, or spec brushes. i've tried all 3 and i've gotten a hole racing season in on one set of brushes without losing any power... in most cases, they got better and better as you use them. we don't allow any serrations (that didn't already come on the brushes), slots, holes, or cutting the edges of the brushes. i don't know what batteries you're using but we use the 4 cell trinity spec packs. i'm sure bigger batteries would shorten the life of the brushes. hope that helps.

Hey Hillbilly. Here is the blueprint we came up with at Racing City Hobbies for our "SPEC" pan car class that we started last year.

1) We had great luck using Trinity "handout" motors, the ones with the purple end bell and the chrome can tagged EPIC 27H. We ran them with full face "F" brushes (easy to ID in the car), no cutting, timing or drilling allowed they can be re-surfaced (re-serrated) though & comms can be cut to prolong life of motor. We did not impound the motors they were all racer owned & maintained once bought from the hobby shop. We did have "RCH SPEC" specific motor labels produced to again easily ID the motors. No label = no laps.

2) BSR "SPEC" tires with the yellow band aorund the tire, and we limited the tire compounds to, LF green RF silver, REARS green & gold or a combination of both.

3) Batteries consisted of unmatched 3800mah packs built by the track owner from orphan cells from various matchers. We date coded & labeled each cell in the pack in order to deter guys from wanting to re-match the packs. This year due to the lack of 3800's we will be switching to 4200's but also allowing last years 3800's to be run for those that don't want to buy new. We ran a couple of tests last year and found no real performance advantage from 3800's to 4200's.

4) Any pan car chassis new or old and all cars must weigh 40oz.

I as well as many of our racers can attest to just how much fun the racing was and how close the performance is. Leveling the playing field by taking out the battery, motor & tire equation has really put alot of emphasis on driver talent & getting the chassis setup right.

Good luck with your SPEC class hope it is successful as ours has been.

what about a sealed endbell motor. They are cheap enough to throw away when they go bad. Pretty much a maintanace free motor.
