View Full Version : How about a new slot forum topic?
T-Jet Racer 08-25-2007, 08:29 PM I was running a new AW tjet on a large track WOW! It was very hard to handle. I was wondering if we could get a forum going just for handleing and perfomance hints / upgrades? If you like the idea please post and we can see if the admin will remove the dead AW forum and put this in it's place!

I think we could use a few more sub-forums here.
I don't think we need the 141 additional forums to make the slot car forums have an equivalent ratio of posts-per-forum to the Video Gaming forum, but I bet we could come up with a half dozen or so really sensible forums - tech tips, specific car types, specific track building issues, etc., that would make it much easier for newbies (and grizzled vets) to dial into a specific issue for discussion.
bumpercar88 08-25-2007, 09:08 PM I agree that we could probably use more subforums. I've checked out power tools and trains and they don't have near the activity. Haven't given much thought to the subforums though. I haven't been here in 5 days and I've only gotten this far in two hours! Let me get back to ya ;-)
Bill Hall 08-25-2007, 11:42 PM Agreed T-jet. A cache of repairing, tuning and restoration sounds good to me.
A good place for some of our wiley veterans to impart some wisdom. A great place for newcomers to lose themselves.
An added value reference forum within our borders would be an asset IMHO.
If memory serves it has been discussed before and the counter point revovled around the idea that there are so many other places to get info so why bother.
hankster 08-26-2007, 12:18 AM I am always open to suggestions but I see that there have been only 3 replies to the OP. Only 3 replies isn't very encouraging.
As far as the VG forums, it was something to try and only a few months them being open don't mean it won't bve successful.. but I doubt that it will. I have recently eliminated the "Outdoor" forums for lack of use. I suspect the VG forums will have the same fate.
bobhch 08-26-2007, 03:05 AM Hey Hankster,
I (#4 poster) would love to see a how to make them run better slot car dealy thread like T-Jet has suggested. Have seen many post here at HT that all have to do with getting the AW cars to handle better and tricks to use with the pick ups. Along with fixing up older cars and getting them to run right.
For me the people here that have the knowledge to make them run better and also how to do the fancy smancy front end extensions and stuff....This would be a HIT for sure. There are lots of us here that like to customize our cars and run them also.
We slot car runners have tricks to make them go better and faster. Some people here really know what they are talking about and others just have a few good ideas to work with. This could be HUGE to HT to get new members also. Every one likes to share there little secret to get some one Else's little secret....Vroooooooooooooooooooom, vrooooooooooooooooooom, vrooooooooooooooom, Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeatch!!!!!!
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Please Hank let us try it out! If it doesn't work just yank it....I have a feeling that there are a lot of people that would use this right from the get go and show just how important this could be here at HT.
Hey I will be good and try to stay out of trouble if you add this. What is your prediction of post for this new feature Hank? I bet we can do better than what you are thinking! Not just a bunch of junk post to keep it going either...Real quality helpful kinda slot car Hop Up and get your car to run stuff.
I can even see people that sell slot car parts may become HT supporters and sell stuff on that part of HT as well. If I could learn what parts are working for others and which parts to buy.....well I would buy them. Yeah Baby!
No bashing allowed just how to make them run better! I want to go fast. I would imagine that some of the hop ups would be for older slot cars as well? Everyone can just post about which car they like to work on and those hop ups. Sounds good to me.
Just my 10 cents worth, Bob...zilla

Yea it's out there, all over the place, I would like it in one spot. No getting nutz looking around. Personally, I like the idea and hope it gets enough support to at least try. If I am avail Wed. nite for the chat I'll try abd drum up some support! See Ya later. T-Jet racer
noddaz 08-26-2007, 08:28 AM it would be great to have that kind of area here at Hobbytalk..

You never know what kinda secrets those old pros have hidden under their sleeves till they lay it all out there for ya. I think there would be some great info on the new hop up parts coming out...whether they work or not.

I'm In .Sounds good to me Hank!
Scafremon 08-26-2007, 03:31 PM I am always open to suggestions...
Here's one:
Post a topic in each current sub-forum asking for suggestions for additional forums, or sub-forums. Doing this in each of the current forums would hopefully catch the eye, and therefore receive the input from the people who visit that particular sub-forum. I also think that having yourself start the thread shows the people that this is indeed something that you are interested in doing for us. I have a feeling that many people do not add their suggestion, if they sense that it is not something you are truly open to.
but I see that there have been only 3 replies to the OP. Only 3 replies isn't very encouraging.
I was worried this comment might accomplish the same thing as if the thread were locked, but I am happy to see that replies have continued. That's 7 positive replies so far - how many are needed to implement the idea?
Thank you for your continuing help to improve the slot car forum that many of consider our home forum.
joez870 08-26-2007, 04:14 PM Make that 8, Hank.
I see new people coming in all the time (this is great) and they all ask the same questions all the time(not so great). So, rather than us sifting through all kinds of threads, hoping to find that elusive link( to info we have memorized) to help the newbie out, we could simply direct them to the great new section that you are about to add for us! The new area could have cool sections related to various chassis hop-ups!
It would go something like this:
Newbie: Hi, I am new here. I have some new cars that run well but at high speed, the frontend starts to "hiccup" all over the place. Can anyone help?
Any oldtimer: Sure! take a look in the "hop-ups" area. Look for the "Front wheels, tips and tricks for a smoother, faster car."
It would be so easy and we could help the newbies faster!
hankster 08-26-2007, 05:33 PM Here you go, let's se how well it works out.

Slot Car Tuning Tips - Car and track tuning tips
Note: I decided to add in the "track" part just because it seems there are some "tricks" in getting some track to run well. While I could have just used the Track Building forum for that, maybe it'll work better in the "Tuning Tips" forum... don't know, we'll see.
mtyoder 08-26-2007, 06:18 PM Yes, a tips and tricks forum would be great.
