View Full Version : SnowBirds Classes Keep it or Drop it
jflack 08-24-2007, 03:04 PM What classes need to be run at the bird?
I think most will agree the 19 turn class is dead and should be dropped! Maybe a 10.5/4300 Brushless sportsman class should be added. Also the 6 cell Factory class maybe another class that is gone. also the touring oval class is dead, those guys can buy a sprint cars. So what do we have then:
4 Cell stock
4 cell 13.5 Brushless(biggest class at the bird in 2008)
4 cell Pro 10.5/4300 Brushless
4 cell Pro Mod
6 cell sprint cars
1/12th 4 cell 10.5/4300 Brushless, 19 turn or stock
4 cell Sportsman 10.5/4300 Brushless
Jesse Bean 08-24-2007, 03:16 PM I'm not votin till you inclued sk's in the vote, lol.
Jesse Bean 08-24-2007, 03:36 PM I think maybe have these major classes and then one exhibition class but not the same exhibition class two years in a row. maybe spec one year and sk one year sprints another and maybe even 1/18th scales on year. just whatever's popular and maybe a vote on the snowbirds site four-six months in advance. this could help prime those classes and keep it fun. have the sponsor of that class put up a kit or something.
IndyRC_Racer 08-24-2007, 05:47 PM Rotating exhibition class is a great idea.
adamliehr 08-24-2007, 06:08 PM I think 19turn should still be a class. However Pro and Sportsman should be combined. It's fun to race with guys like Honeycutt, Ziggy, Sean, Arnie, etc. I think sometimes its more fun than mod because you can bump and rub without tearing stuff up. I know a lot of people don't run 19turn very much through the year, but there always seems to be a big crowd at the Birds. And that is the only race that matters anymore.
Mike and his crew have been doing a great job with the Birds for years now, and he should/will keep doing it his way. No matter what, it will still be the biggest and best r/c race in the world, period.
So thanks to Mike and his crew!

jflack 08-27-2007, 05:45 PM What I see with all the extra classes nobody is running weekly: LESS PRACTICE for all the other classes. I for one need all the laps I can get at the bird. The more classes added, the less practice every class gets.....My list above provides every skill level a place to race. If you want to stepup and run with the big boys there is a class for you, If you want to stepdown and cherry pick, there is a class for you.
adamliehr 08-27-2007, 10:54 PM Hmm a little "stab" there. whatever, I'll ignore it.
13.5 and stock practice together
4300 and 19 practice together
bl and brushed mod practice together
problem solved!
Plus it is a national calibur race. It is expected to race against the best of the best in each class. Therefore cut the sportsman. It is not needed.
Like I said.
Mike has done a great job in the past and will continue to do so. So this little argument is irrelavent.
I'm done, posting on this. If anyone has a problem pm me.

13.5 and stock can not practice together the speeds are too far apart

As long as Tony continues to put up the money, the sprints will stay. No matter what anyone puts on a poll. Plus w/ the schedule like it is he may be able to race, so of course the sprints will run again.
