Humpty 08-21-2007, 11:58 AM A big thanks to Charlie with Novak for making the Paved Oval Nats.. It is nice to see that kind of support for Oval racing ...He was there to help whoever needed it ...Thanks Jeff Helms JONW1020 08-21-2007, 12:16 PM I will second that Humpty, Charile would answer any question you had about the brushless stuff and even did a little class on the motors for us in between rounds. Novak will be the only thing I will run from now on. bush87 08-21-2007, 12:47 PM I will Agree, Thanks Charlie for the help all weekend and for the Oval Support.I will be putting Novak back in my Race cars. jdearhart 08-21-2007, 04:51 PM Yep, it was nice to have some support there at the track. I had Charlie check a motor for me, and found that some of the windings had shorted (due to my stupidity, LOL!) and he swapped it out for me right there! Novak has by far the best customer support out there! Thanks again Charlie! JW Housley 08-21-2007, 09:04 PM Charlie is the man...... I have raced now for 16+yrs and there has never been another brand of ESC or Rec in any car I have ever owned. Over 30 wins and a National Championship cant lie to me. Greatest electronics in the World in my book. Keep up the great product, and thanks Charlie. Kevin killerkoncepts 08-24-2007, 11:46 AM Charlie thanks for the help and support. The majority of their time has been invested in their brushless products. It's still gonna be a while before their charger is released. charger01 11-13-2007, 11:17 AM thanks, adam Mayhem 11-15-2007, 02:47 PM I have been trying all day to get through to Novak for tech support, I keep getting answering machines or a message to "call back later"! CDW35 12-28-2007, 08:50 PM I am not an oval racer but I have to agree with you guys, Charlie and NOVAK are top notch!!!! 7734otdortoh 12-30-2007, 11:51 AM I recently purchased an XBR/13.5 system to run at the Steel Hobbies brushless Nationals race. Ran fine in practice with the Lipo but was to fast for me. Disabled the Lipo cutoff (rechecked twice) and have tried three different races to run carpet 4 cell oval pancar with nothing but problems. About 2 minutes into a run the car starts glitching on the back stretch and shuts off once or twice coming out of turn 2, again only after 2 minutes or so. Changed recievers (futaba and XXL) and radios (futaba 3PKs which I used for other vehicles at the same races with no issues). Finally replaced the XBR with one of my SS+ speedos and had no problems through 3 heats and a main yesterday. Motor came off the track at 165 F. Anything I should look for or try before returning for repair? jnor 12-30-2007, 12:04 PM See my post in the brushless/lipo section about my XBR issue's KLEIN-12 12-31-2007, 01:10 PM bump.... bolognarc 12-31-2007, 01:13 PM I recently purchased an XBR/13.5 system to run at the Steel Hobbies brushless Nationals race. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY IT THERMALED WITH THE XBR? 165 IS FAIRLY WARM... swtour 01-01-2008, 12:38 AM ...I would bet this is still in "LIPO" mode. That sounds pretty much EXACTLY like what the LIPO cutoff mode would do. STUTTER then SHUT OFF MK Race 01-01-2008, 12:50 AM Happy New Year to everybody at Novak. Big thanks for all the support your company has given the BRL and to all oval racers that need your help. Hope you have a great 2008. 7734otdortoh 01-01-2008, 06:18 AM I've checked that the lipo cutoff is off twice. The car cuts out coming out of turn two onto the front stretch as well as the glitching half way down the back stretch. It has no throttle or steering and coasts almost half way down the front stretch before recovering when it cuts out. It only happens once or twice a race and I usually finished the race. The car was also much more sensitive to erratic behavior when I put the antenna down, as if the receiver is not receiving sufficient voltage. Any other ideas? tuftiger 01-03-2008, 09:25 AM I have been a loyal customer of Novak for many years and never had a problem with the product or the service. I bought a new 4 Cell esc about 3 months ago and out of the box one of the leads to the receiver was broke off the circuit board. I soldered it back and 3 weeks later 2 more wires broke off the circuit board. In attempt to fix the unit to finish a race day, I messed up the circuit board. I sent the unit back last week and paid the fee to switch the unit to a 6 cell ESC with the plug in connectors. When I get it back I am going to have a very expensive ESC Paul teamhooked13 01-12-2008, 10:19 PM i have xbr run oval i would like to take the heatsink off so i get to fit on the car is this safe. thanks Dave Mr.Wolfman 01-13-2008, 09:36 PM Witnessed a similar issue with a Glitch caused by Static electricity. The car would run 3 1/2 min then take a violent right turn into the wall at full tilt. After changing every electrical including the Radio, he shot the chassis and body with STATIC GUARD and no more trouble. This guy was going crazy, he had a TQ car that would not finish a race because of static. Drew kept digging and got 2nd in the A....great job. teamhooked13 01-13-2008, 10:48 PM hi rob what guy sound like me in 90s i would have can of STATIC GUARD in the box. but i trying to get the speedo to fit under the shock tower on HD PRO 3 so i need to take the heat sink off. whats think will it work. i still need a good setup for summit 1degree rear steer more off tee and pod, short car, wide in the frnt did u see mud's car. seeya Dave t4mania 01-15-2008, 09:04 AM I'm using a Futaba 3PKS Tx and I use HRS mode and digital servos. The write up on this receiver says it works only in PPM mode. Will it work in HRS mode on my 3PKS or would I have to switch over to PPM mode. ovalguy1 01-15-2008, 11:26 AM Anyone know how to contact Novak. I have tried allt numbers and email addresses on the page. Have not got a response from anyone.I mailed my 10.5 back on 1-2-08 by USPS. Have tried a number of times to contact someone. I will be handing it over to my postmaster tommorrow and let him take care of it. Sometimes you have to be a jerk. I'm not sure what else to do. If you e-mailed Charlie then he will get back to you but he is busy and it might take him a few days. ovalguy1 01-15-2008, 11:48 AM Im not saying I should have it back. I just want someone to contact me back. Thats all I ask. Just trying to make sure they recieved it. J-Dub Racing 01-15-2008, 12:30 PM Hey Ritchie- This was posted on a diff thread. I tried to polish my can and ended up wiping of the image from the sticker. I sent an email to customer service and after no response ended up calling. I offered to buy it and was told that Novak doesn't do that. Can anything be done? LMK miamilongo@aol.com jblackburn 02-01-2008, 02:12 PM I mailed a motor to Novak on December 23 and it got back to me on Jan 21st. I live in CA so there isn't a lot of shipping time. It takes longer than 13 days. kang45 02-03-2008, 01:19 AM Anyone? KenBajdek 02-03-2008, 10:23 AM ovalguy1, that is why Novak recommends using UPS or Fed EX because they have a tracking system. You can track it yourself. Novak works every other Friday too. Charlie will answer you if you email. He has a lot of emails to respond too I'm sure. I used 2 day ups there and back and had my GTB in 5 days. It cost me more to ship it that way. It seems everything moves slower from the west coast. Standard shipping USPS, UPS or FED EX would be about 5 days one way for me. Kang45, I don't think you will be able to get motor sticker. It would cause too many issues for some tracks if we were allowed to change the sticker on a 10.5 and make it look like a 13.5. If you give some people a chance to cheat they will. I'm not saying that is what you are doing but it just keeps that issue from being an issue. tuftiger 02-03-2008, 10:43 AM I have a fairly new 17.5 and recently switched speed control. When I switched the ESC on the motor got hot and smoke came out of it. I switched to another 17.5 and it ran fine on the same ESC. I took it apart everything looks ok but the bearings appear shot and comunator has a burnt smell. I am new to BL just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? KenBajdek 02-03-2008, 10:50 AM There are only 2 things that wear out on brushless. The bearings and the rotor. If the bearings are shot the motor would overheat and shut down with thermal protection. Which speedo are you using? Which rotor too. The older rotors gray would wear out due to overheating 170+ temps. The sintered (shiny chrome looking) take the heat nuch better. If the other motor is bad just send it to Novak. Go to there website and fill out the warranty or non-warranty paperwork. tuftiger 02-03-2008, 01:02 PM There are only 2 things that wear out on brushless. The bearings and the rotor. I had run the motor a week before with a 4 cell Novak and had no problems. The 17.5 is one of the new designs with the Sintered rotor. I plan to send it back on the exchange program. kang45 02-04-2008, 01:58 AM Motor decal replacement? Does anyone know where to egt one? Novak customer service said no. pmsimkins 02-04-2008, 11:12 AM Thanks for the reply, the ESC was new out of the box LRP competition. LRPs have a habit of occasionally doing that. The speedo is probably junk too. Unfortunately there is no thermal protection for the motor when you use it with a LRP. You probably burned up a winding. My new out of the box LRP burned up and also burned up a motor. Sounds about like the same deal. I'd send back the speedo as well even if it doesn't look like it burned up. tuftiger 02-04-2008, 11:31 AM LRPs have a habit of occasionally doing that. The speedo is probably junk too. Thanks for the input, I did not know that the LRP's did not have thermal protection for the motor. I guess that I will send it back along with the other unit that failed! With this kind of potential problems why do so many people use the LRP? The main reason I got another one was due to the smaller foot print. I mounted it next to the batteries in an agressor. The 4 cell Novak would not fit Paul Thermal protection probably wouldn't have helped anyway since it didn't get hot from use, it was an electrical issue with the speedo. It would be nearly impossible to shutdown a 17.5 motor with anything resembling normal use. I'd say 3 reasons people purchase them 1. Misplaced belief they are faster. 2. Smaller 3. They had a problem with Novak. The Novaks are not defect free either, but from my own experiences, what I gather on here and from people I know I'd say they are better. tuftiger 02-04-2008, 08:51 PM Thermal protection probably wouldn't have helped anyway since it didn't get hot from use, it was an electrical issue with the speedo.
