View Full Version : Ferrari 512 Modulo and other flea market finds
SMS88 08-19-2007, 01:39 PM This really is the season when folks clearout stuff for extra cash and a BBQ with the neighbours. Here is this weekend´s scores and last weekend underneath.I focus on Lesney 1968 -1972 and Corgi 1965-1972 so I have some fine gaps filled and a few upgrades here

Much to my surprise my newly found Ferrari 512 Modulo in yellow by Polistil of is a completely different casting to the Spanish Auto Pilen, both being made in the early 1970s along with the small scale Corgi Juniors.I havent seen a photo of the real car so i am not sure which casting is most accurate but with rubber tyres and holes in the hood the wine colored Pilen model wins by a nose.Incredible castings with the wire hinged doors, and suspension on both, something sadly missing on most toys made in the past 20 years. I am very happy to have all these, especially the caramel colored Ford promo issue Cortina which is ultra rare

pdxwheels 08-19-2007, 03:04 PM WOW! Some very nice cars, especially the T-Bird in your second pic, looks like it's mint condition.

Some light wear to the high edges - all those Matchbox were $5 each and I am very pleased - cheaper than ebay!

SMS88 08-26-2007, 02:49 PM The BBQ with the neighbours tradition has continued this weekend and folks put these cars out in the street to sell when I passed by on saturday. The Field car is the rare skinny superfast wheels issue and the blue VW and Blue Citroen Safari are both Corgi Juniors sticker issues not late Husky castings. The 74 Daimler is the same dark red as the Routemaster rather than the common bright red so for almost no money its ok that they are good but with light playwear. The Ford GT is the only Aurora cigar box model I have ever found- nice but I hope to trade it for Lesney
I didnt have this Dodge twin tipper as child although many friends did ,but it sure is fun to drive around the table, one of the best play value models ever from Lesney, and the 10-15% paint loss adds to its charm as a working toy and for $8 I am grateful :)

These 3 1960s Teknos were not cheap but are very well made, superbly designed toys.I will restore the Ford truck to keep, and probably put the other 2 on ebay for christmas...

I went to a toy collectors swapmeet last sunday and came away with these items.Although the Lesney 8b and 18b (dark yellow like a Coca-Cola truck) have lost their original tracks both are HTF in decent shape and replacements are available. The other yellow items, the gpw Victor wagon is rarer than the usual spw/bpw issues, and the $1 39 Pontiac is an early issue with red steering wheel and spw - (Condition only matters when you´ve got a choice  !).
The 26 GMC is as near to mint as it can be, and apart from the Hatra and the Harvester was the only other casting I need to complete my 1968 Lesney catalog collection -I have never liked this model but for $4 I finally had to buy it ;) and now that its at home it is much more enjoyable than I expected with my childhood dislike of this casting.......
Now I only need 1 more 39 all blue tractor to finish loading up my K20 :)
Best of all for me is the Politoys Lancia with suspension, opening hood, trunk and doors -detailed but otherwise superb for a reasonable $30
I didnt spend too much and have some nice new toys and some trade/ebay bait so I am grateful for last weekend and look forward to many more equally enjoyable ones to come......
SMS88 09-21-2007, 03:41 PM I have just been to England for 5 days holiday, and found some diecast to add to my collection. Some came from stores but the old stuff came from a toymarket at the Imperial War Museum , Duxford. Highlight of the day was a 3 Spitfire formation practicing flybys.
Toywise, I wish I had found the Routemaster and the black cab to go with the XKEs but I am pleased with what I did find. The gw Hotbird is always welcome (have 2 already) and the HK spectraflame blue Ferrari is very nice. 2 more G boxes to bring my collection to 30 out of 75 at $13 each....and a rare Swiss post Playart Scania bus still sealed in its bubble. The HW 53 Custom Chevy is brand new - it just didnt look right in the blister so I set it free..... clear hood doesnt open but looks great

JasonZ 09-25-2007, 06:40 PM More cool finds! Best of British! Cool!
SMS88 10-06-2007, 01:50 PM http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/SMS369/toys/2007-9Sep197.jpg
These are my finds from the past 2 weekends. Nothing really special apart from the c1970 Tekno Scania buses in dark red and darker red ;)
The Hotwheels Lotus in white is mattel attempting to cash in on the 1977 James Bond Movie ´the Spy Who loved me´which used an identical car without the British flag -I bet many kids made the connection to this unlicensed Bond car!
But the Corgi Juniors yellow Dodge Magnum is on of the few late 80s castings that is HTF today, the redline Maxi Taxi is charming (it inspired the Lesney Ford Capri based Maxi Taxi), the chrome HK Mustang Stocker isnt an everyday find either even if the chrome is a bit flakey. The 63 Vette is a high raker - good idea which died a long way back......
The blue crushed roof 66 OLds Tornado is a parts donor -I have a much better white shell ,when combined the car will only miss glazing, one headlamp and the hood catch, and will look like a cool workshop project car I hope.............
JasonZ 10-06-2007, 02:07 PM cool finds
SMS88 10-14-2007, 04:18 PM Its been another good weekend of picking from beater boxes for pennies (only the Lesney M2 Davies truck and the redline Silhouette cost over $1 each)
