View Full Version : SpeedZone Hobbies - New Dirt Oval Track, Connecticut
speed321 08-18-2007, 12:07 AM Hello all, We have just about finished up a dirt oval track @ SpeedZone Hobbies in Rocky Hill, CT. We used a clay surface and we are just making some adjustments to smooth it out a bit more. It is about 130'-150' driving line give or take. We built it mainly for the new Team Losi 1/18 Slider's. We do see 1/10 in the near future. Next year we will also be building another oval track that should be about a 250'+ oval for some fast 1/10 scale action.
We have been running on the track with the 1/18 and they run great. I will post some pics in a couple of days.
We are running Friday Night under the lights: Starting @ 7:00pm &
Saturday's: Starting @ Noon.
For rules on this class visit: http://speedzonerc.proboards49.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=1187093282
If you can offer any recommendations please feel free to post them here or email us @ speedzonerc@sbcglobal.net.
Thanks

speed321 08-23-2007, 04:55 PM What type of maintenance do you guys do to keep the track in shape? We have a new track and I was wondering if there were any maintenance tips you could offer. The track is pretty smooth but we want it even smoother.... Let us know.
Thanks
darrel 08-23-2007, 05:07 PM the guys at GMX in new milford rent a power trowel (the kind they do cement with) it works fantastic.
One question though. why are you leaving out 1-10th scale on your racing program? the size of the track sounds perfect.
We currently have a 100ft high banked runline and run 10th scale stock and sliders.
FOAM tires only!!!!!
midgetracer81 08-23-2007, 06:14 PM do you have any sliders in stock

Thanks for the advice. :)
Once this is used does he repack the suface or does this pack and smooth at the same time? I have never used one before.
I have no problem running 1/10 if guys want to run on it. We don't currently have any here. We just started the slider class to make a inexpensive startup class. We all plan to get them next year.
If anyone is interested in 1/10 bring on down!!!!
darrel 08-25-2007, 09:56 AM I helped build the track but wasnt involved in the finishing touches. I do know that they packed first and then or at the same time (depending on what equipment your using) drag a pallet behind the tractor to level. Then the power trowel is used.
If you want go to the gmx thread and ask some of your questions I dont think (maddball) will have any problem giving you answers.

Sounds good I will try this out. Do you know if they had any weight on it?

That worked great... Thanks again.
We spent all day working on the track and it is real smooth. :)
darrel 08-26-2007, 03:56 PM congrats...
I will talk to the guys once we get a really good crowd and see if we could all come for a visit. once you get established and running 10th scale edm's it might be a good idea to run a combined series or something.
speed321 08-26-2007, 06:36 PM Defiantly. Just give me a call or send me a email and we can discuss further.
Thanks again.

speed321 09-20-2007, 09:28 AM Its going well. Still running sliders Friday under the lights and we are getting a pretty good turnout. We keep getting more racers as the weeks go by. I cant wait to see a 1/10 Oval Car on the track.
