View Full Version : To young to know...
cagee 08-14-2007, 05:47 PM I have been trying to do a little research but really can't find a whole lot on the Chaparral 2F cars like AW just came out with and I can't for the life of me find pics of the other cars that raced in that series or even what type of tracks that they raced on.
Any help finding so of this out would be great. LOVE TO SEE PICS.
Found this pic in another forum. But not real sure what the other cars are or what kinda track its on. I'm just a pup and wasn't even around when the cars where screaming through the turns.
jph49 08-14-2007, 06:06 PM Here are some links to get you started. The first has some information about Jim Hall who was the mind behind the Chaparral line. It also has come pictures.

This link gives a brief history of the different incarnations of the car.

I know one shouldn't cite Wikipedia as a source for a term paper in college, but it ought to be alright for some general information about Chaparrals.

Here is an interview with Jim Hall.

Hope this helps. The Chaparrals were indeed some fascinating racing machines. In many ways they were ahead of their time.

cagee 08-14-2007, 07:34 PM Thanks for the info Patrick. That will get me a long way down the road.
Thought I'd tell you got a new Hobby Shop in Poplar Bluff. Its called Hobby World in the Valley Plaza. He carries the larger scale slots and tracks. I talked to him for a bit and he said he races every once in a while with some guys who live in I think Dexter and Sikeston.
jph49 08-14-2007, 07:40 PM to show how unobservant I am, I didn't notice that was you!
I know Doyle who owns the hobby shop and have run cars with him several times. I'd really like to visit his tracks at his house. A friend of mine has been there a couple of times and said the tracks are something else!
I made it over to the shop back in July shortly after he opened. Nice place.

cagee 08-14-2007, 07:56 PM I made it to his shop the first week he was open but my wife don't much like me goin there says I spend to much (I only went twice and bought something both times I don't know where she's coming from?).
He talked like he had some nice tracks setup at his house. said he had a road course and an oval, some pretty big tracks.
roadrner 08-14-2007, 10:53 PM What's interesting besides the great 2F pic. Are the stands empty because a trial lap or limited interest back then? rr
SplitPoster 08-14-2007, 11:04 PM re Chaparral 2 F and what it raced against, try this link.

Check out 1967. World Sportscar Championship, everything from prototypes like the Chappy and Lola T 70 to prepared sports cars of the time.
Some ho scale models don't do them justice. MEV does make a few other contenders of that era.
However, if you make it to a vintage race every now and then you might see some.... best $25 ticket you can buy, unlimite access. These are at Road Atlanta last fall, SVRA season finale. Calendar is firmly marked for next one in 2 months.

Try this site. TONS of pics from late 50's through a couple of years ago. Came in handy for several customs I've done.

That's right, the home of throwed rolls. Quite a place, eh?

SplitPoster 08-14-2007, 11:23 PM When I raced in SCCA several times we made the trip from Jackson MS to the old Gateway in beea-utiful East St. Louis (now underneath the new Gateway I guess). Long drive, but we stopped at Lambert's every time. The one down here in Foley never seemed quite the same - fewer passarounds, food not as good, but they're always packed.

I was actually curious if anyone knew what kinda cars were in the pic racing the 2F. Cause i don't have a clue. Love to see old pics like this but don't much about the cars from back then.

I live about 40 miles from the Lamberts in Sikeston but have never been there everytime I decide to go its packed and one thing I can't stand is standing in line to eat. I just feel like a herd of cattle. Drives me crazy.
I'm probably the only one withing 200 miles that hasn't ate there.
