What is an acceptable mah for spec type battery packs to everyone. On this poll Im going to stay with NIMH cells(most likely IB). Now keep in mind the lower the mah the lower the price too. Which I think is the goal of spec..correct?

3000 or 3300

I'd say 3000 or 3300 too since 3600 and more are already much closer of actual racing batts.

You can still use a cheap charger for them (even a Tekin 110L was all I needed then). Then using Trinity Pulse Discharger will be ok since 3000 cells already could be discharged at 30A and are Ni-MH.

Remember that 1600 cells are Ni-Cad so unless you have an Intellipeak charger/discharger you are trapped with what I consider the stone-aged method of using light bulbs.

I have heard the 3600's are a very durable battery.

Rob,

Could you put a comparitive price together on the 3 Mah's listed...

ie: if a
3000 pack could be sold to the public for 18.99 a pack, but the
3300 could be 21.99 and the
3600 were to be 28.99

that would show what a price range difference would be (I'm assuming we're talking 4 cell - although with the NEW Slower B/L motors...the 6 cells could be used too, but MAN those cars are going to start getting Heavy...LOL)

I don't know the "SPEC" market very well - and don't know if it's something we'd be adding here (As far as SPEC rules goes) but the Entry Level car I'm in love with and hope we can work that in (Although we have a HUGE group that buys a LOT of Used stuff right now - for instance we've got guys trying to buy up all the used KSG Gen1's for $100 - $125 because for that price YOU CAN'T beat them)

I'd prefer we leave things alone in the Spec Class. Stay with the current 1600 batteries. Spec works. The batteries are cheap! And, right now, it seems to be about the only Class we have that does.

What would be the incentive to change a popular, successful, and thriving Class? Thanks; Ernie P.

...I don't know ANYTHING about "SPEC" racing and/or "SPEC" rules that are currently being used anywhere, but I know talking to some of our 'new' guys they have asked about prices and so forth - and I have a hard time with a straight face telling them to buy crappy batteries when they can come to HOBBYTALK and get used 4200's for 10 - 12 bucks a pack.

A buddy of mine just today bought 3/4200 packs of Express Packs for $35.00 Shipped. Will these be great packs? Probably not, but I'd bet they'll be better than his worn out 3800's.

I know SPEC isn't for a guy like me - but since I don't know how most of you who run it are organizing it...I have a hard time pushing it....but I could see it as a good opportunity to learn - if someone wants to detail it a bit more.

Radio Shack sells 6 cell GP 3300's for $25. I have used a pair of them for a year and a half in a stadium carpet truck and have been outrunning just about every other battery out there. They just started to fall off at the end of last season. For $25 a piece I don't think you can beat them!

Lets use the words "entry level type" I personally think the 3000 would be a great way to go. Should the 3000 be something that is used the price would be reasonable for an assembeled pack that could be taped in and roll. It is not about power really, it is simply a low buget thing that hopefully would help to bring new people in, but at the same time have a good cell at the affordable price. Affordable is the goal here.

I always thought the old Pro Match 3000's that were made for ARCOR were good, I think you are definately on to something here Rob............

latemodel 100: They were a good equalizer, until the local yokel "pro's" weren't getting the numbers they wanted. The batteries didn't have numbers, by their Turbo, they were crap. ARCOR was on the right track, but pressure from the hot shoes changed that.

I personally like my 1600 packs. I run them in Legends, charge my heat packs at 4A and my mains packs at 6A and run the snot out of them. Most of them will hold between 2200 and 2400 mAh during their life span...when they hit about 1700 max I ditch them or give them away and pay $16 for a new pack. Plus in my experience, I get more punch from a NiCd pack.

They are easier to maintain and cheap to replace. What more could you ask for in Spec racing :D

I Agree With Rob On This One.if We Can Keep The Cost At Or Below $20 But Not Get So Many Junk Packs. Last Year I Bought 75 Trinity Spec Packs And Only Used 11 Of Them And Junked The Rest.and I See Guys Get Into Spec Racing And They Just Don't Have The Speed Or Run Time Of Guys That Know The Tricks To Charging The Trinity Packs.last Year I Let 2 Guys Run My Packs With No Chassis Or Gear Changes And Both Picked Up 4-5 Laps.bottom Line The Trinity 1600 Packs Are Junk 1 Out Of 10 Packs Are Good......when I Bought A Batch Od 75 Packs I Knew That Wasn't What Spec Racing Was About,it's About A Level Playing Field, Cheap Class To Run,but If Guys Can Do Tricks To Charge Or Zapp The Packs They Will......i Think With Even 2400 Packs Racing Would Become Alot Closer.

but who is going to allow these new spec packs ?? arcor is kinda stuck on the trinity packs, arent they ?? dont get me wrong, in spec brushless nastruck i and just about every other one running it hate the 1600mah's in the packs, we are so limited on gearing just to be able to make a 4 minute race.

and iceman, get ahold of me when you buy your 75 packs this year, ill take the ones you dont like off your hands !!!!

but who is going to allow these new spec packs ??

I'm pretty sure he is asking about these batteries for his soon to be released RTR "Breeze" car. This car will have it's own set of rules. He's not trying to change the current spec class rules.

Here is a quote from Rob from another thread:

There is also a rule book being written at this time that will be a base line for all tracks to follow. Again to further stop cost and upgrades that are not needed or make it so you can go from track to track without having to have different equipment. These will only be guidelines that I hope that tracks will stick to and follow to help the oval racing out. The intent is to LIMIT COST.

Run An Smc Spec Pack Made At Their Facility. They Do Make Spec Packs And Probably Could Make Them The Cheapest Since They Import More Batteries Than Any Other Importer As Far As I Know. Just A Suggestion. Just Saw 17.5 Lipo Run As Fast As The 4300 Cars At Easley. Just An Fyi. I Hear Novak Is Working On A 21.5 Motor Now To Introduce A Slower Class.
