Took the kidletts. They didn't want to see it (they wanted to see the Simpsons).

We all liked Stardust. I've heard it described as "Shrek for adults" and "The Princess Bride for the 2000's". Both are true, but I liked it better than both of those other movies. If you didn't like Princess Bride than this may not be your cuppa.

Michelle Pfieffer gets belly laughs for her role as a mean old witch. As does Robert De Niro as a mean old pirate. Can't help but like them both.

VERY MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

I had low expectations for this based on early reviews, but my wife's a huge Princess Bride fan (as am I). We realy enjoyed it. I can see some of the critics' complaints. Disjointed, everything thrown together, leaps in logic -- especially regarding the wall and enclosed "land." But, I suspended disbelief and just had fun. The comedy was so over-the-top that I just went with it. Anyone else think Tristan's mom seemed a bit too ageless? Was she under a non-aging spell or something? DeNiro was a hoot. The brother's fighting to the extreme for the crown was very dark comedy, especially when the first "incident" happens. Wasn't expecting that.

And when she's not in nasty old witch make-up, Michelle Pfeiffer is still a goddess. Can't believe she's almost 50. If you like the humor of Princess Bride, check this one out. I think "Bride" is the superior film, but this comes close at times.

I had somewhat the opposite experience going in with high expectations (the reviews I read were good). Although I really enjoyed it, it did feel disjointed in places. Worth seeing for Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro and Ricky Gervais.

Good advice - just go with the flow and enjoy.

I thought it would be a pretty uneven piece of work, and I was not disappointed.

Question for those of you who've seen the movie: WTF is up with the "psuedo-score" soundtrack ripoff from Coppola's Dracula that plays during the Inn sequence? I mean, who do they think they're fooling?

Dunno, I was watching and listening to "Billy" too intently. Well maybe "Bernard" too. OK ok, Michelle and Claire too. There was music during that scene?

Agree an all counts; "Stardust" isn't the work of art that "Princess Bride" is, but I did have more fun watching "Stardust".

I've only seen the trailers, but Michelle does look rather amazing.

Perhaps the score snippet was an inside joke? Not familiar enough with that score to have noticed.
