View Full Version : Hispano~Suiza Wrecker conversion
Lummox 08-11-2007, 07:45 PM I got inspired by old photos of converted wreckers from the '30s
Packards Cadillacs and the like were used durring the Great Depression
due to the fact used luxury cars were cheap and had mounds of tourque.
I narrowed the bed and top from a JL model A P.U.
It's still in the mock up stage.
Deffinatley looking foward to using this casting for future ideas.

Oh, that is so very awesome, on so many levels! Love it, love it, LOVE IT!
ClearHooter 08-11-2007, 09:55 PM Very, very cool idea. I assume the covering on the door is to try and maintain the original color?
Lummox 08-11-2007, 11:33 PM Aw, shucks, Thanks guys!!!
Yeah, I am gonna try'n keep the origional JL paint on the front half and rear fenders.
And if I can I'll try to paint the bed to match.

Dadvball 08-13-2007, 12:35 AM Awesome idea and step by step pics! Having a small tow truck collection I may have to try something like this myself. I think I have an extra Hearse hanging around.
Did you make the boom, or "borrow" it from something?
Lummox 08-13-2007, 12:41 PM Thanks Dadvball and all!
What hearse is it you speak of?
If someone made a 1:64th scale hearse besides the JL ones, I'd sure like to know about it.
And the boom I made from grinding down HO train track rails.
Lummox 08-19-2007, 06:05 PM Here's a couple a pic of home-made tow rigs.
This first pic is dated 1930. Can't tell the brand, probably a Cadillac, but the car used to be a 4dr of some kind. It's too hard to tell weather it was a sedan or an open type phaeton.

This next car is a late '20s Lincoln. You can tell it used to be a dual-cowl phaeton, so it was always an open car. Now in it's second incarnation, its towing a wrecked race car at Legion Ascot Speedway in California.
