When my son was three we got this classic Craftsman mower from an elderly neighbor's estate. It was a fun "daddy & son" project to get it working.
As the story goes; we cleaned the points and got it running, turned it off and my son said "what's this" and grabbed the muffler before I could say anything. Live and learn.
Its a classic, and now Jake (13 years old) is wanting to totally restore it.
It was working about eight years ago and then it lost spark. I figured the points were fouled again so I just stored it.
To this point we have:
1) Polished the points, set to .020" (there was some "crusty")
2) Eliminated the shut off wire from the circuit (lost insulation and maybe shorting).
3) Set the coil/magneto gap to ~ .010.

Does anyone have documentation they could send for B&S 92502?
Any links to good parts source would be nice.

Thanks, J.B.

you have you points and flywheel to mag number backwords

it sould be about .20" for the flywheel to the mag

and I also believe now that I think about it, that the points should be .20" while they are wide open

The settings he originally stated that he used are correct. I would suggest replacing the points and condenser, and make sure that the primary lead wire from the coil to the points is not grounding out where it attaches to the condenser.

Best of Luck..
