This thing is the greatest. These Tomica sets are so much better than what Mattel offers. Though I have never actually seen one in person. I really want to order the Toll Booth set. Click on that set (top left) and go to the bottom to watch the video.

Has anyone seen these in person? Are they built reasonably well? Does anyone know where I can order this for U.S. shipment. Thanks!!

I have seen videos of Tomica playsets on youtube.com. They appear to work very well and the cars keep moving. I am very interested in their durability as well since I do race car birthday parties.

I don't see any on e B a y and I don't know where or how to purchase them. If anybody knows, please post the info. Thanks!

Track down a guy on here named Tomylord. He's not in the U.S., but he seems to know about all there is to know about Tomica. Check for him in the European forum.

Yup, he's the guy to talk to when it comes to Tomica cars. Very nice person.

They are neat. Heres one currently on ebay: 170137499817
I recommend this seller, you get feedback immeadiately on payment and delivery in about ten days from Hong Kong. I purchased the 7-11 and post office sets recently. Great stuff!

Tomylord is in the Phillipines. He's a great guy but I would guess that you would be better off buying from a Hong Kong seller for price, shipping speed, etc.

That toll-booth is really cool. I like how the cars build up in line waiting patiently for their turn.

That motorized Tomica Toll Gate set is still available here in the Philippines. I'd like to help but the box is so big & I'm afraid that shipping cost would be a problem.

Here's another Toll Gate set by Tomica under their Tomy Town diorama line.

Awesome I see a Matchbox 59 Impala with silver plastic wheels behind the 61 Ford peeking out too! Both really neat pieces too....Are the "POLICE" on the blue & white a label or tampo?

I checked with Tomica a while back and was told that they do not sell to individuals in the U.S. and everything I have been able to dig up is that their market is for Japan and the rest of Asia. Not too sure about Europe.
I want several of their playsets but I could not locate any.

"In the US" ? Not too many places, if at all. Only place I see any form of Tomica playsets is a couple of local Japanese markets - in So Cal there is Mitsuwa and I've seen various playsets at one of the specialty shops at both the Torrance and Costa Mesa markets.

Best bet is places like Toyeast, Sunupapa, maybe Hobby Link Japan or Hobby World Japan, or for auction on eBay.

I don't have any of the playsets, but I've used them when in Japan. They are cool, and definately worth getting if you're into playsets!

For Christmas, I bought my 3 year old the Mega City set by Tomica (now available at Toys r us). I was a bit concerned about the intricate parts and the train getting broken. HOLY COW.....Tomica builds these things to last! He and his 22 month old sister have beat on that thing and not a single part has chipped or broken. The train has been dropped dozens and dozens of times, yet works and looks like brand new.

The set wasn't cheap ($69), but it was totally worth every penny. The kids love it and it should last them many years. Better than anything built by Mattel! I totally recommend these Tomica playsets!

I believe these sets are available are TRUs in the states. I saw a fairly large display at the one we were in yesterday.

Yes, they have train sets exclusively at Toys R Us right now but not the big car play sets.

Really? The set I saw was all cars, no trains. Displayed on a table about 3x5 or so.

Here is a bunch of stuff from them. Cars and train sets. :)

The original poster was asking about Tomica stuff at this link:

http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/tomica/lineup/world/index.htm

Check out all the items on mostly the top half of the page. That stuff has not been made available in the U.S. yet. What they have here so far are dioramas that fit together with their train layouts.

The variety of stuff available in Japan is completely different than what we get here. While some of the sets we get are similar, the decoration and packaging is made specifically for the US market. A complete list of products can be seen here: http://www.tomica-usa.com/

Plasticville made a very nice toll booth that fits 1/64 scale extremely well. it comes in both green and blue versions. I see plenty of these on the bay, you may want to look into this type also.
