The Nations Premier Brushless Oval Series is proud to announce its schedule for the 2007-2008 BSR Brushless Oval Tour. This years tour will consist of 8 regional events and conclude in April at the Novak National Finals.
We will again be returning to all of the tracks from last season and expanding to a couple new regions of the country. Out first trip to the Mid-South will take us to Greenville R/C Speedway in Tennessee. And for our friend to the East we are in the final stages of confirming a date in the Keystone State (More details soon).
BSR Racing Tires will continue there involvement in the series as title sponsor and help contribute to the largest points fund in R/C oval racing. This 07/08n points fund is expected to exceed last years record $5000 payout.
BRL participants were part of some incredible racing last season and with the growth of Brushless classes around the country this year should be even better. Inaugural season Champions Pat Simkins, Frank Ulbrik, and Danny Bartholomew will be back to defend their titles against some of the toughest competition in the country.

Changes for 2007-2008
We are always evaluating and looking for ways to make events even better for our racers and help rebuild the oval segment. Full rules detail will be available in a few week but hear are a few of the highlights.
National Points Qualification - This year points will be figured on your best 3 finishes of the first 5 Regional races you attend. This score will be added to your points total at the Novak National Finals to determine your ranking.
(Note: Obviously this year we have added more event. It is probably not possible for most racers to attend all of these races. Also the last thing I want to do is take racers away from there local tracks and or cost them more travel expense. The goal of the 3 out of first 5 rule is to allow racer to pick and choose the events that best fit there travel schedule. They will also not pay a penalty buy missing an event and allowing their competitors who can attend more to continuously better there score.
For racers who don’t have a home track or want to run more than 5 events you are more than welcome. You can run the same class but you will be given a 0 point total for the 6th race and beyond until the Finals. However at that point you could also enter another class and take a shot at a second points title.)
Points Classes for 2007- 2008
Hobby Talk 17.5 Sportsman Stock - This new class should serve as the perfect gateway to get new racer involved in the hobby and or a home for those he feel more comfortable at speed comparable to a 27T brushed stock motor. Body, chassis, and electronics rules will be the same as the 13.5 class for the season. (Full rules will be available in a few weeks)
PROTOform 13.5 Master Truck - The perfect class for veteran racers over the age of 40. They might have lost a tick on the reaction time but are still experienced and highly competitive. Dale Epp at PROTOform is a huge supporter of oval racing the BRL and has stepped up as class sponsor and designed an awesome looking Nastruck body that all drivers in this division will use. The body is scheduled for an Early September release. Chassis, and electronics rules will be the same as the 13.5 class for the season. (Full rules will be available in a few weeks)
13.5 Super Stock - New name but same great racing as last year. This was our fastest growing class at the end of the season and is quickly becoming the standard at most local tracks. Look for larger fields and some close racing action. (Rules pretty much the same as last season no major changes planned)
10.5 Pro Modified (old 4300) - The name sez it all these guys are the most talented and competitive group of racers in the country. From the sounds of the new racers coming the field is going to get even deeper. With the speed escalation over the last few years I think you will see the 10.5 class evolve into the new modified. (Rules pretty much the same as last season no major changes planned)
Non Points Class
Open Pro Modified - Although not a points class this year we will offer the Pro Mod at a few selected tracks this season large enough to handle the insane speed. Look for a little cash bonus to entice the speed demons to come out and play. (More details in the next few weeks.)
Race Format
This year all qualifiers will be switching from 5 to 4 minutes.
(Note: This will better align us with other major events around the country. Also with the anticipated turnouts growing it will allow for a little more flexibility with the practice and race schedule)
Lap scoring for the A-mains.- It’s no fun if you don’t mix it up a little and add a little more strategy.
A finals for each race will be the following
Hobby Talk 17.5 Sportsman Stock 70 Laps
PROTOform 13.5 Masters Truck 75 Laps
13.5 Super Stock 75 Laps
10.5 Pro Mod 80 Laps
Weekend Total 300 Laps
Legal Speed Controls for 2007-2008
This has probably caused me the most debate and been the most difficult decision for the upcoming season.
As you know the growth of brushless racing in all forms of R/C is going to drive development on new Brushless motors and Electronic Speed Controls.
The flood gates are about to open in the ESC world and soon we will have several new manufacturer involved. The rate of development of the next year is going to be intense. All are going to come with new features that will allow for timing advance or other adjustment. As a product developer you general try to look at what the competition had and try to do it better.
I had two options to consider for this season.
Option 1: Open up the ESC rules in certain classes and allow the new systems - If I were to open this up it was going to get expensive real quick and racers would be buying a couple of new ESC’s over the season to stay competitive. Although it may make a few manufacturers and sponsored drivers happy We will loose racers.
Option 2: Stay the same as last season- If I stay with the same package I already know that I have 220+ racers that ran in the series last year that do not have to buy new equipment. Novak had been a tremendous partner and is obviously a great supporter of oval racing in this series and many others.
This would also allow time for the market to settle and the on-road and off-road guys can fight the ESC of the month deal. We can re-evaluate for next season.
So I have chosen option 2. I will post a full list soon but basically the approved speed controls for this season will be the Original LRP Sphere or form Novak any version of the GTB, SS, SS+ or XBR Sport System.
As stated full rules will be available in the next few weeks. If you have any question or are interested in Sponsorship opportunities send me an e-mail at sbrown15@insightbb.com
