I was given a 6.75 HP, Craftsman Eager 1 that the previous owner could not start. I clean the carb and put new gas in it. It now starts usually on the first pull, but it missses. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

View Full Version : Engine starts easy, but misses sluggermike 08-05-2007, 09:53 PM I was given a 6.75 HP, Craftsman Eager 1 that the previous owner could not start. I clean the carb and put new gas in it. It now starts usually on the first pull, but it missses. Any suggestions? Thanks. 30yearTech 08-05-2007, 11:49 PM Probably air leaking around the nozzle of the carburetor, this carburetor should have o-rings sealing around the top and bottom of the nozzle. They may need to be replaced. sluggermike 08-06-2007, 04:46 AM The carb has a drain plug on the float bowel. I took out the drain plug and noticed that inside the drain plug opening there is a spring with an elogated piece of plastic and an o-ring. The main nozle is made out of plastic and is attached to the bottom of the float bowl and then it is inserted into the body of the carb. I didn't notice any o-rings. Is there someplace else where the o-rings should be? I also noticed that when it does run, it seems to be running faster that most lawn mower engines. 30yearTech 08-06-2007, 08:38 AM The carburetor nozzle should have an o-ring seal at the top between the carburetor body and the nozzle, and at the bottom where the main jet screws in and up against the nozzle. You would have to use a tach to check the running rpm's but it could be set to run slightly faster then a mower since it has a much smaller blade. sluggermike 08-06-2007, 04:51 PM I will check out the nozzle for o-rings. This is the first time I've seen a small engine carb like this one. The bowl is made of hard plastic and has a snap on ring which holds it to the body. The nozzel is made of flexible plastic which is inserted into the body unlike the rest that are made of metal and are attched to the body. I'm beginning to wonder if the nozzle just came loose of the body when I removed the bowl. I haven't been able to locate a carb that looks like it in the manuals that I have. I appreciate your help. Thanks 30yearTech 08-06-2007, 07:45 PM Oops, this carburetor only has one o-ring around the bottom of the nozzle and there should be a small spring underneath the nozzle to keep it pressed against the top of the carburetor when the float bowl is installed. There is another o-ring that should be checked, it seals the main jet and is located underneath the bowl drain screw. sluggermike 08-06-2007, 08:56 PM I will check for the nozzle spring and the 0-ring. I was just at Home Depot and noticed that the carb that they have on the Honda GCV190, Mdl HRX217KA looks similar to the one that is on this lawn mower. I've never worked on a Honda mower and that's is why it didn't look familiar. newz7151 08-06-2007, 11:54 PM deleted, apparently I'm just a troll. sluggermike 08-07-2007, 12:33 AM The mower is a Craftsman. I don't believe it is a Honda motor, I suspect it is probably a B&S. My last comment had to do with the carb. I had never seen a carb like this one, and I noticed that a Honda mower had a similar looking carb. justin3 08-07-2007, 05:57 AM The engine is in fact a Tecumseh, when you took the drain screw out of the carb bowl, inside there should be a spring and plastic nub, make sure you put that in the same way it came out, if it is in backwards it would cause the engine to miss. It happened to me! sluggermike 08-07-2007, 05:17 PM I believe I put the drain plug back correctly. I put it back in in this order: o-ring, plastic nub, spring and drain screw with o-ring. If this isn't the order, please let me know. Thanks newz7151 08-07-2007, 10:58 PM deleted, apparently I'm just a troll. sluggermike 08-08-2007, 04:48 AM I looked up Sears.com as you suggested. It showed the lawn mower, but there wasn't a break down of the carb as was stated in the last post. Does anyone else has an idea of where I can get a break down of the carb for a Craftsman mdl. 917.377591.
