Nosmo King 08-04-2007, 08:05 AM I read that Target would be selling GLs starting in August.... Seems like we're usually a month or 2 or 3 behind the rest of the country so it was quite a shock to see some at the local Target.... Picked up some of the BJ 2 & S&C 4 releases....
70XR7 08-04-2007, 10:52 AM Nothing near me, but I did see several pegs cleared out, so maybe today!

No, back when I was a grade school kid in the mid 1960s, there was a show on every morning before me mum sent me to school (Pittsburgh PA area) with some goofball character named Nosmo King.... Not sure if it was a local or national show, but I name-jacked it 40 years later....
JasonZ 08-04-2007, 05:31 PM lol in the book it was, the story that a girl didnt want his dad to smoke and put up a "no smoking sign" But the first line didnt have enough space so it read
Nosmo
king
instead of
No smoking lol

Nosmo King was a character from the TV show "Adventure Time" hosted by Paul Shannon on WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh, PA). The show aired from 1959-1975. I liked the "Three Stooges" short films that were aired on the show. Nosmo King wore a trenchcoat, sunglasses, hat, and had a fake mustache. I would think of the original Nosmo King as a flasher by today's standards, :p but not you Nosmo King.
Here's a link where you can read about the show and Nosmo King.

Perhaps you remember the Hank Stohl show too Nosmo King. A puppet named "Knish" (Ka-nish) was featured on this show. Knish looked like a mop with a wood nose sticking out from the mop. This was another local Pittsburgh show.
WLRay 08-04-2007, 11:07 PM Yep the day, lots of great local shows here's another..."Bwana Don," his Saturday morning alter ego, hosted "Safari." Dressed in Banana Republic-esque khakis, he introduced wide-eyed kids to exotic wildlife and old Tarzan films. Younger viewers looked at each other in amazement when Riggs gazed into the camera and told them he saw they were wearing pajamas.

I remember "Bwana Don" WLRay, but I can't remember the duck's name.
Was the duck's name Donald Dingbat? Do you remember the duck predicted the weather in the newspaper?
WLRay 08-04-2007, 11:19 PM Willie !!!
STUTZ 08-04-2007, 11:21 PM Who was Donald Dingbat?
WLRay 08-04-2007, 11:26 PM Got me stumped on that one????

Stutz,
Thanks for the refresher.... That's the show I remember.... I spent my 1st 18 years in Belle Vernon (20 miles south of Pittsburgh) & thought it might have been a local show.... After reading your post, I can see old Nosmo like it was 1966.... I'm happy to say I don't own any trenchcoats.... :freak: I do have a faint memory of the Knish character, but not anything about the show.... Those were the days.... NK

What a blast from the past. Hank Stohl's show was 'Popeye & Knish". Featured Popeye cartoons. Stutz described him very well. Looked like an old mop with the handle of a rolling pin as a nose. Adventure time was where every Pittsburgher learned to love the Stooges. Great stuff!

Here's a pic on Hank Stohl and Knish with friends.
Don't quote me on this, but the "old man" puppet was Rodney Nugent Hackenflash......I believe.

McRooster 08-15-2007, 09:43 PM GL's have been easy to find at retail, either that or I've just been lucky.
Picked up both sets (A&B) MCG4 All 24 cars and the BWF 64' Plymouth was # 5000
Got set "A" at meijer and set "B" at Target.
STUTZ 08-15-2007, 09:57 PM Greenlight cars aren't flying off the pegs like they were last year. Production was 2500 for the first MCG. Production is up to 10,000 even with the Barrett-Jackson cars. With K-Mart, Toys 'R Us, and TARGET selling them now even the scalpers are leaving them on the pegs now. I've seen 11 or 23 cars hanging on the pegs hours after a store opens. You can bet I missed a Green Machine! I don't care, I still buy the regular version. I no longer buy every new car that comes out, I am more selective in my purschases.
wannafbody 08-15-2007, 10:07 PM Hello from Aliquippa- I was born in 68 but don't remember Nosmo King. I do remember Mr Rogers and Captain Kangaroo.
