Any word for what batts are going to be out this upcoming Indoor Season??
I hate to see what happened last year with the newer 4200WC's coming
out 1/2 way "IN" the season!!! Spent $$$ on batts at the start of last years
indoor season and then a month later the newer batch of WC's came out.
Was so "DISGUSTED" about that deal I quit racing for most of the season!!!
Still debating on even racing this season....... Dont have the Big $ to keep shelling out the latest and greatest, Im sure there's others that feel the same pains..........

Thanks
KJ

Unfortunately, thats racing..
The batteries are getting to the point of being max out with capacity due to there size restriction from ROAR.
Unless the batteries are allowed to increase the size then that will be it for
Ni-MH battery.

And say hello to Magnesium Lipo batteries..

Do what I did, go Nitro.

..push for the LIPO train...

3200 Carbon Peak/Orion LIPO and a SLOWER B/L motor to fit Your needs...to go the speed of your favorite 4 cell class.

LIPO Class options should be

Stock 4 cell equiv. (21.5/LIPO)
19t DEAD CLASS
10.5 4 cell equiv (17.5/LIPO)
OPEN MOD 4 cell equiv (10.5/LIPO)

Unless you like it INSANE - there's no need for a motor faster than a 10.5 w/ LIPO cause it's pretty INSANE already...but if you want a STUPID FAST MOD CLASS

OPEN MOD (Brushed or Brushless) w/ LIPO

I understand your pain when it comes to the battery situation but I wouldnt Stop raceing. The nice thing about the modern nimh battery is you really only need two of " The Good Ones " for a raceday. I budget buying two new battery packs every couple months and it keeps me Competitive/Happy.

sw, have you ever talked to orion/peak to see if they can make a 4 cell size equivalent lipo battery. Equivalent in this case would be size, not volts, so that way they can be a drop in solution for any 4-cell car.

Right now carbon packs are a bit too long, they're basically 6 cells in length. If they were 4 cell lengths they could fit into some 1/12 scales too. I wouldn't mind trading a little bit of height for the length to keep similar mah ratings.

Do you know how much is left in the 3200 after 4/5 minutes with the 17.5?

I hear you KJ,

From Sept '06 until February '07, the Intellect 4200 cells got constantly improved from batch to batch (power wise).

Intellect was on a clear mission, developping a cell that outpowered all other cell on the RC market. On the other hand, with the gain in power came drawbacks like odd cells shorting out (0V cell) and a higher rate of self discharge.

Intellect is now actively focusing on these (2) separate issues that has been around since October '06 (0V cell, high rate of self discharge).

The batch of cells I got this week show a great improvement in the self discharge issue. On previous batches, the cells I'd get from from Intellect were already in the range of 1.050-1.150 as a result of the high rate of self discharge (all cells are equally partially charged at Intellect) ... on this batch they're all well above 1.300V still! Not to say that this is all now fixed but I have to admit they're heading in the right direction.

They're are no current plan to obsolete the Intellect 4200 in the next months (capacity or voltage). The objectives are now all focused on reliability.

I am not singleing out Steve at all and with that said, why can't the batteries be fully charged after the matching process and before they're put into the packaging for sale to customers?

I get batteries that at the time of matching were outstanding cells and have killer labels to match, only to have the cells commit sucide in their packaging waiting for RC racers to buy them. When the cells self destruct, the runtime is gone forever. And having a great 455 @ 35 amps race pack arrive only to have the cells be 0v and be maybe 420 @ 30 amps is really irritating.

The 0v cells are a real PITA. I will be running lipo everywhere I can.

BTW, the voltage on the 0v cells is outstanding. Consider them factory dead shorted. For 13.5 and maybe 10.5 on some tracks, they will be really fast.

I'm now putting back 4000mAh (90%) in all TQ Cells that goes out to hobby shops.

I agree with Scott H, The battery wars will never end ,as will the hottest motor, that will never end either. I really hope brushless will end this problem, but from what i have been reading about it, that also has got some problems, already. With Nitro, it is all in the car, and driving skills.

darin,

first,

one of the goals (some of us) are trying to reach w/ the LIPO battery is uniformity. While I agree a 2c LIPO in the configuration of a 4 cell would have been great BUT - that's not what we have to work with, so instead of reinventing an existing product that is already proving itself to be a very good product...we're adapting to IT.

Some 1/12th scale cars the LIPO fits well on, but TPlate style cars have an issue...

On the 1/10th scale cars - I put ASSOCIATED 6 cell trays on all my slider chassis OVAL cars to allow the LIPO pack. (Both on KSG and Hyperdrive Pro3)

i will not go lipo until forced to go or until they fit in my 4 cell slider tray. whatever comes first i guess. i can's stand the current voltage level or the current size of the lipo packs! errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr not maverick 5.5 slider car friendly at all!

I went nitro only to have two .09 motors go south on me,so nitro isn't the end all to the motor wars either!!!!!! as for brushless SAME DEAL more motor wars, there's new brushless motors being developed as we speak!

The .09's are much more "ticky" that the .12's from what I have seen. Although there have been a few out of the box failures on the OS .12's.

The only sure fire deal that you can never have bad equipment is Video Games. Where is the fun in that?!

WELL YOU NEED TO BE TOLD AGAIN thats the deal tires and car set up set on the outside front row at roar nats last year with a 30 dollar GTS novak speedo that was recondition and borrowed batts from jflack should have TQed with track record in one of the heat races and BTW the motor was 56 watts so it aint motor either.. gilly ran his 2 packs that EA sent him for practice and the whole weekend at the nats and built his own and handout motor and led till the last lap and finished third with only 2 raptor cars at the showing so dont't blame it on batts or motor!!!!!!!!!!

Are you saying that Novak has or is coming out with a 21.5 brushless motor? If so, that would be great with the lipos...I would think it would be close to running the 13.5 w/4 cell.

I see, should have , finished third, I do not see anything about won, champion, first, oh well try bigger batteries, more motor, new tires, and get a better speed control, maybe then you or somebody from band camp can be first.
