How do you like to prepare F Brushes for Co27 Motors? Slots, Holes, Thru-holes, .010" off the trailing edge, and/or remove most of the serrations before breaking in etc etc. How long do most guys like to run them and who's F's do you favor, or are they all from the same source ultimately?

hey rick,
i have found that a very small slot with .10 off the trailing edge has been the best at 90% of the tracks. if i need a little less amp draw then i take a little off the leading edge.
i have been running this brush and pretty much only this brush for years!!
also on most tracks we can run them 3 or 4 times and then skim the comm and put the same brushes back in for 3 or 4 more runs with no drop off
just take your motor out every run to clean it
if you have any other questions just ask

All F's are the same and come from one source -- Finishline racing
Rick did some playing around with different brush compounds early on but I believe he's been doing the same mixture for quite some time now.
F-Brush/Cobalt/Speed Juice...These 3 was made for each other it seems.Only stock combination i have used in 2 years. I take 25% the serration's off and a 7/64th hole
and no erock ahead time..30% dont work! lol

What I have been doing for some time with decent results was to take .010' off the trailing edge, sometimes drill and sometimes slot. Talking to Todd putnam at a recent race, he said that the slot will produce the power quicker, but the hole will perform longer at the expense of a longer break-in time. I was mainly looking to see what everyone else was doing with regards to how long you can use them before tossing them out and if they varied from mfg to mfg. I believe you guys answered all those questions. Thanks for the info.

What about 8/64th (1/8") hole? that is what I used to use

What's the goal of drilling a hole in the center of the brush?
And the drilled hole?

The center of the brush creates the hottest point off heat.
By drilling a center hole your transferring heat throughout the brush to the four corners.
So, I was told...

I was always told drilling the hole created more rpm, but I think that was a myth.
Another trick I used to do for outside racing that seemed to keep the motor running cooler was to drill a large hole in the center about 1/8" deep and then take a smaller bit and drill it completely through the brush as a vent hole of sorts.
If you use com drops the hole in the back of the brush gave a nice point to pour drops into.
