View Full Version : My Car Club's Doing a GL Promo!!
Woody68RS 07-20-2007, 05:09 PM My car club has decided to do a Greenlight Promo to help cover the costs of running our website and keeping the club free. We are the Northern Kentucky F Body Association www.nkyfba.com a great group of Camaro and Firebird owners and enthusiasts. I have been in contact with Russell at Greenlight for a couple weeks now, and the pre sale page is now up and running!!. We've chosen to go with the new 1:64 1985-1989 Trans Am Casting for our promo, and we're doing a Blue with silver ground effects 1986 Trans Am. We're figuring the Green machine will be green body (with the silver ground effects) and green base, and we're looking at the clamshell packaging. This is the car we've chosen to model the promo after...

and this is the model of the 1:18 scale Trans Am so the 1:64 should be close...

We need to presell about 25 more sets of 10 (9 regular 1 greenie matching numbers to one of the regulars $70 plus shipping and insurance) to get the templates and have a "final" design to show everyone, and I'm trying to model most things after the DieCastLive sales as far as packages, pricing, etc... because they did such a good job over there.
If things go smoothly, I was hoping maybe we could get these distributed almost before the casting actually hits retail shelves.
I'll keep everyone posted, and hope you all look foward to this one as much as I am!!!

Woody68RS 08-01-2007, 10:30 AM Sales started briskly, and have slowed a bit. We could use your help. We still need about 18 more sets preordered to begin the production process. If you were planning on ordering a set, we'd appreciate the help!! This will be one sweet promo, not to mention a great chance to get your hands on a great first casting!!!
Thanks!!!
Cletuss 08-02-2007, 09:31 PM Very cool Woody, congrads.
Woody68RS 08-13-2007, 11:33 AM Things are progressing nicely, The TransAm Nationals are coming up in another week in Dayton Ohio, if we can drum up a few sales there we can get the ball rolling!! We're down to about 15 sets to presell to get the templates!!!
carnut2256 08-13-2007, 12:30 PM Bill, forgive me but I'm a bit slow on the uptake these days :p What is it that we would be getting for $70?
I'm all in favor of promo cars and helping out groups like yours doing them, I just want to understand what it is you guys are offering is all, and then I'll most likely order up a set for myself
Thanks.

Hey Rich!
$70 gets you 9 regular issue Blue Trans Ams, and One Green Machine. By ordering a set you assure yourself a greenmachine as opposed to taking your chances at getting a randomly inserted greenmachine (roughly 1 in 10 or so). And the greenie will match one of the regulars in number (if you get greenmachine # 0003 you will have blue Trans Am #0003)
Woody68RS 08-24-2007, 07:15 PM Still looking for a few more preorders to get into the production phase...

And now that it's been two weeks since this last post, how many more pre-orders are needed? The holidays are coming and several of these are destined to go to some die-hard collectors in my family. Thanks for the updates!
Woody68RS 10-01-2007, 12:34 PM We're down to needing about 4 more sets. Orders seem to come in waves. Once we get these last few preorders in, I'll have more info to post including template pictures and soon after that, prototypes!!
Woody68RS 11-23-2007, 04:41 PM Just an update. We got the templates from Russell this week, and as soon as we have a good working design together, I'll be posting pics!!

Pewter02WS6 02-11-2008, 09:47 PM bill, are there any updates on when we are going to receive these or any sneak peeks of the final product?

We're simply waiting on Greenlight's design team at this point. Our design was in the incorrect format needed, so they had to take our graphics etc, and rework them into something they could use. They've had things for almost a month, so I'm anxiously awaiting news any day... I can tell you that the regular version will have silver lace rims and silver ground effects on blue paint while the green machine will be gold lace rims and gold ground effects on green paint. I'll be posting followup info and pics of the prototypes as soon as I get any word!
We appreciate all the patience, and believe me, we're just as anxious as everyone else to get these beauties!:woohoo:
Woody68RS 02-14-2008, 07:21 PM Got this from Russell today...
We need to know if its okay if we use a 1987-89 Trans Am body instead of the 86 you had previously requested for the promo. Upon further review of our Trans Am tooling capabilities, we do not have the right tooling for the 86. This type of discovery only came to light recently when we received the final tool plan from our factory at the completion of the mold. They had tried to get all of the parts for 1985-89 in the mold, but some were not able to fit in the metal structure that produces die-cast cars. I am very sorry for this, as I know you had wanted to produce the 86. On a positive note, the 87-89 looks fabulous and is guaranteed to be a hit with your Association and anyone else who buys the die-cast!!!
I think the main differences are the third brakelight in the spoiler, and the fender vents on a non GTA, whish we were thinking might be able to be tampoed on...
