Here's a few pics of the 1938 Phantom Corsair made by Brooklin. The Phantom Corsair was the dream car of Rust Heinz. The Phantom Corsair had a Lycoming (Cord) L-Head V-8 engine with 190 HP in it. It had an approximate top speed of 115 mph. Estimated cost to build the car in 1938 was $24,000. Production models were to cost $12,500. The Phantom Corsair never went into production.

I can picture Batman of the '40's driving the Phantom Corsair. :p

Here's a couple of links with information about the 1938 Phantom Corsair.

Definitely a futuristic looking car for 1938 WLRay!

I remenbering reading that the front skirts would pop off if the steering wheel was turned lock to lock.

Quite a car with a facinating history ~ isn't there only one that was built???
I have a British classic car magazine with an article on it...
Thanks for the pics, Stutz!!!

Yes, it was the only one made lummox.

Hot Wheels made a First Edition of the 1938 Phantom Corsair in 1999. A worthwhile addition to your diecast collection if you don't have one.

I agree Superbird77, the Phantom Corsair looked like no other car in the 1938 line-up of cars.

Can you imagine trying to park this thing? The combination of poor turning circle and tiny windows would make it a complete nightmare!

I saw this car at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2006. It's a hell of a beast! As I'm sure you know it had a Cord engine and it used to overheat. The Brooklin was mastered in-house by Darren Mould and also appeared as a limited edition for one of the model clubs in matt sand. JM Toys recently had a batch of the original unsold sand cars part resprayed to make them two-tone. I don't know if he still has any but your search engine should find his website.

Yes, the original 1:1 1938 Phantom Corsair never went into production, so only one was made.

Hot Wheels made a nice 1999 First Edition in black like the original 1938 Phantom Corsair that can be bought for $1-$2 at a toy show. It has both a diecast body and chassis.
