Kevin announced the Knoxville race will be held in the parking lot of what is now the Middle School. It's only about 3 blocks south of the fairgrounds.
Thursday, August 9 is track set up and practice with exciting quarterscale racing on Friday and Saturday. Sprint cars are the primary class but all classes are welcome. Motel rooms are still available in the Des Moines area...I just looked on the Motel 6 web site. Let's have a good turn out!

Just a reminder that we will once again be hosting the Knoxville Quarterscale Nationals. Dates are August 10 & 11 (Friday & Saturday) with a practice day on the 9th (Thursday). We expect to have a good field of sprint cars and hope to draw a field of Sportsmand and/or Grand National cars as well. If you can't make it for the full weekend, you are welcome to attend just Satuday.

The race location will again return to the Knoxville Public Middle School. Just a few blocks south of the main dirt track. It creates for a great atmosphere with a good crowd of spectactors. You are all invited and encouraged to come and join in the fun. If you have any questions about the event or just need advice on logistics, let me know. My email address is kevin.verschuure.qujx@statefarm.com. or call my cell at 712-441-7001.

Race is QSAC sactioned. QSAC membership can be purchased at the track.

Kevin, Are you planning a display at the fairgrounds? Randy, Mike and I will help with it if you are. Randy, Mike and myself will all be bringing sprints looking for action. We are arriving Wed Morning and will be at the big track for all four nights racing and also looking for some hot competition at the middle school.

Fred,

That would be great to set up a display table again this year. If it works for you guys, we will plan on you for Wednesday night and possibly Thursday night. I will have to see if any arrangements have been made to secure a booth location at the fairgrounds. I will keep you informed as I hear something.

Kevin:
I will set there all day but when racing starts we would prefer to be in the stands watching the races. We have front strech seats for all four nights.

Guys,

We are working with the Raceway to find a spot similiar to last year to have a stand. Unfortunately the track sees it as a money making venture so they only give us a spot that they have not rented or the people have not showed up yet.

I received an e-mail from Jeff Griffith who lives near Sydney, Australia. Jeff planned on bringing his car but a recent heart attack has not allowed him to get it ready to bring to the U.S.. He does have a set of brand new BRP tires that could be used. What I am hoping is that someone may have a spare car that he could run while he visits. We unfortunately do not have a spare 230 engine to drop in what remains of our back up car. If anyone has a spare car or motor we may be able to try to work something out so he can race.

As some of you may know Jeff was nice enough to let me race his car in February when I visited Australia. I would love to be able to repay the kindness he showed me while I was on vacation. At the same time I view this as one of the biggest races we run all year and I hate to hand over the keys when this is a race I would love to win again.

Let me know if anyone can help.

I don't understand why the track considers what we do as a money making venture . We don't have a concession stand or charge addmission to watch . It's more of an imformational type deal for us . Oh well it's their rodeo , guess we ought to be glad we get to set up a display of some sort . What are we gonna need to pull this off ? Canopy , couple tables , couple sprinters, ( ok a Taxi Cab or two ) some hand out leaflets about 1/4 scale and our race ( as to where , when , with a schedule of event outline ) . Maybe we could hand out some small QSAC stickers ( decals ) with the hand outs .

AS far as helping Jeff out , I don't have a spare car , but between all of us I'm sure we can come up with enough parts to field a decent car for him .

Looking forward to having another great time out there in Knoxville . I think getting back to the Middle School lot , we'll be more centralized for exposure to the foot powered crowd . Not that there was anything wrong with the High School lot , but the Middle School lot is more suited for the walking distance crowd .

When is this race and where is the track at

Curt V

The race is located in Knoxville Iowa on the Middle school parking lot(behind the school). The middle school is approximately 3 blocks south of the Knoxville Raceway on Highway 14.

Randy,

The guy who runs the fairgrounds is all about making money with his vendor spots during the Nationals. We have had to fight just to find a spot to set up for a few hours to display cars and promote the race.

We are now required to rent the school parking lot for $100 which a few years ago they were just happy someone was using it to attract people. The city of Knoxville seems to have fallen on hard times and everyone is trying to make a buck while they can.

Curt V

Oh yeah the race is in conjunction with the Knoxville Nationals.

August 9 setup and practice
August 10 Racing
August 11 Finals

I am proposing we use a slightly different format this year with our races:

Day 1 - Qualifying or pill draw, 2 Heats and Features, top 2 finishers advance directly to the A-Main on Saturday and will start 1st and 2nd(could be changed)

Day 2 - 2 rounds of heats wit the finish on Friday setting up the heats, points would not be cumulative but any tie breaks would go to the higher finishing car on Friday, Features would line up behind the 2 pre qualified cars.

My hope with this format is that any racers who can only make Saturday will not be guaranteed to be stuck in the B or back of the A-main.

Let me know what you guys think as this is only proposed at this point and we could go back to the QSAC format of 4 heats and features.

Thanks to all who made offers for Cars or Motors :) but I guess Jeff is not going to be able to do any racing due to his recent heart attack. I am attaching the recent e-mail I received from him.

i thank you kindly for all your help in trying to get me a car to race, butunder doctors orders i am not supposed to have any stress or worries. as aracer i would probably have both (especially with someone elses car). as anonlooker i would have none of either and probably enjoy it more this timearound.i will definately bring the wheels with me in case someone elsewishes to purchase and user them.see ya soon.....jeff.

Again,

Thank you to everyone who made offers.

Any idea on the track size or a ball park gear ratio.

It's been about 7 years since I've been to see the Nationals and I'm really looking forward to it.

The track should be about 350 - 400 feet long. We are using the same fencing for the track that was built in the early 90's.

The one thing I will note is that the cement at the Middle School has gotten quite rough and we may try to move the track around to find a smoother patch.

Guys I need some help. Does anyone have an extra gallon or two of VP C16 Fuel that they would be willing to sell me. I have not yet had a chance to find a dealer in the Champaign area.

If so it would be greatly appreciated.

I should be at the track sometime early afternoon on Thursday.

Practice will start on Thursday after track set-up is completed.

For those that are just coming to Knoxville for Saturday, give me a call to get and updated schedule of events. Our current starting time may be changed due to a rain out of the Wednesday night show at the big track. The last I heard, they will be running the Wednesday night show on Friday, and the Friday night show on Saturday afternoon. Thus a conflict with our schedule. My cell phone number is 712-441-7001.

Revised Schedule for the 2007 Knoxville 1/4 Nationals.....
Friday - We will run our entire program. Race format will include qualifications, heats, and features.
Saturday - No races

The reason for the change is due to the rain out of the big races on Wednesday and they are racing a make-up race on Saturday afternoon.

We had about 9 cars at practice on Thursday. We are anticipating about 3 more. It looks to be a good field of quality sprinters. We also have a couple stock cars. We certainly appreciate their support of the race as well!

Results from the big track.....as I remember them anyway.....
1. Jeff Shepard
2. Brooke Tatnell
3. Wayne Johnson
4. Joey Saldana
5. Paul McMahan
6. Steve Kinser
7. Don Droud Jr.

Tatnell and Shepard both started on the front row. Tatnell led the first 23 of 25 laps. No cautions until car slowed on back stretch on about lap 23 as Tatnell had a large lead. Shepard passed Tatnell on the backstrech on the restart. It was great racing all around. Other highlights.....Kinser was collected in a wreck on got on his lid on the opening lap of his heat race. We made repairs to damaged wings and finished 4th and final qualifying position for the A main. I am guessing McMahan will be the top point guy from the night as he ad quick time for the evening.

That's all I got.

Point taken. But some of us have still have to work for a living. I also have a little side R/C project in the winter that takes a lot of planning and keeps me pretty busy.

Although I have not made it to any 1/4 scale events so far I’ve probably traveled to about 15 other races outside of my home state this year and about 30 events total. Throw in a move, several USAC and Eldora trips and you can see its been a busy summer.

After several night of thrashing until 2am the car was pretty close to being done. Actually I was thinking about driving out last night. But with a new car to shake down and most likely some limited practice time today thought it would not be as good of an idea.
