I LOVE racing sports cars, but dadgum this scale is expensive! I would fill my collection with them tomorrow, save for the money issue! But this board has made quite an impression on me!

Here is one I picked up last weekend at a local antique mall. Paid $20 for this baby, and felt lucky to get out alive! It is a 1962 Ferrari Dino 196 SP made by Art Model in Italy. I can find VERY little info on this brand, maybe someone can fill me in with a little info. I love the dimensional base it rest on.

Hope you like it! Thanks to everyone for introducing me to this scale.

Man - that is gorgeous!
Is it the lighting or are the wheels stainless or something?
You'd better hide that one from yourself 'Stang, 1/43rd is contagious!
Congrats!

Very nice buy Ward! I believe current Art Model cars sell around $50. The base is a nice bonus on your model. Rob (Macs Little Cars) and d.o.m.001 (domenic) are the Ferrari experts here. Both have a large collection of Ferraris. Now, to add more 1/43 scale model cars to your collection! :p

Great model Ward.

Art are an Italian brand, concentrating on Ferraris - although other marques are available - they've done several GT40s. I think the models are still made in Italy - one of the few die-cast companies still producing in Europe.

Jinx -
Interesting fact about it being one of the only companies left in Europe.
That explains the over-all warmth that casting has.
Something castings from China can never quite carture. - even in 1/18th scale.
What's up with those wheels? They look like stainless steel. Maybe it's the lighting? Wow!
Thanks for the info !

Nice addition to the family. I am a classic racing car lover too, and have come to the same conclusion, that one will go broke in this scale, thats why I collect only 1:64, and the details can't compare, although AutoArt, Kyosho, Konami, Hotwheels 100%, JL, Greenlight and Tomica limited are doin' pretty good. I just got in a beautiful Kyosho Ferrari 330 P4 yesterday.

Fast Eddie, Here is my "road Racing" case in 1:64. I can only imagine what it would cost me to have a 1:43 collection of even just this size!

Hey Lummox, The next time I take this thing out of the case, I will snap a pic of those wheels! It is in a clear plastic case, and inside a plexi glass covered display case. So It would be almost nutty to get a good shot through all that! But they are AMAZING!!!
And they do look like stainless to the eye.

I read that some Art Model cars had aluminum wheels.

Hey, I see alot of familiar faces there. That is a nice display, is it open,if so is dusting a big issue? Good to see there are some road racing fans around!

No, it's closed, I just opened the door to get a better pic. But the road racing cars are what has drawn me to the 1:43 scale. I am running out of good authentic 1:64 options, but in this scale (1:43), I can run out of money LONG befor I run out of cars!

I saw one identical to this in Jan. with a $120 price tag at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall in Phoenix. An awesome car, I thought the wheel were aluminum on the one I saw too.

The name says it all, their products are ART.I only have 1, a 1968 Holden Monaro, but I would buy the Jag XKE fhc if I see one at a reasonable price. They take up a lot more space and $ than 1/64 but it becomes a more selective hobby - only keep the cars you really really like.I have about 250 1/43 scale including childhood Dinky & Corgi, plus excellent Solido,Trax,Politoys,Gama,Pilen ......so many brands , but all cars that I like. Even a few 2007 issue bburagos like the Chrysler 300C and Viper - $2 each at TrUS recently who can resist? :)
