For my niece's b-day my sister-in-law asked me to embed this 30-second clip into a powerpoint presentation. Unfortunately the clip is in a 3+ hourlong home movie. I don't want to spend the money to buy a software editor for something I will most likely never use again. Movie-clipping's just not my thing. Does anyone know of a freeware movie editor?

Movie maker, and or moviw maker 2 comes with windows xp - So if you have that platform - that should do it - It is not bad for a free one.

XP Windows Movie maker is really easy to use. I bought Power Director, but Moviemaker is more intuitive and simple. Here's a movie I made for my sons football camp-

Thanks Gerry-Lynn and Rich! Once I found Movie Maker it worked like a charm. Holy cow that was easy. Almost *too* easy....

From what I have seen, you can only burn CD's with Movie Maker, not DVD's to play on a TV DVD player. Is this correct or is there some way to actually burn a DVD, NOT a CD or CD+RW?

I've got Movie Maker with Windows Vista, and it does burn a usable DVD by transferring it over to Windows DVD maker. I'm not sure if XP systems have that option. I love how it works, you can pick the style preview screen you like and it automatically cuts it into chapters.
