I was wondering if the protoform 2000 SS taruas was legal to run at the paved nats in august? it was legal once I was wondering if it was still ,also the date for the toyota camary is up and it just came out. the # for the taruas is 1221 and the camary # is 1226.

Tommy,i ain't roar but on their website these are the approved proto bodies i find:

1/10 NEXTEL CUP PROTOFORM 1223 12-31-2008 Monte
1/10 NEXTEL CUP PROTOFORM 1224 11-8-2007 Intrepid
1/10 NEXTEL CUP PROTOFORM 1225 1-10-2009 Charger
1/10 NEXTEL CUP PROTOFORM 1226 6-1-2007 Rice burner

The date is the approval expiration[which is kinda weird on the toyo],and in the rule book it says if it's not on the list it ain't legal.

Here is a copy of a post from the carpet oval nats. The same question came up for this race.

Sounds like there's a little confusion going on.

YES - the #1226 T-HD body is ROAR legal. You might wonder why it has a date of "6-1-07" beside it on the ROAR Approved list. Here's the deal: ROAR is writing up a more detailed set of rules for oval bodies in an attempt to keep the shapes of rc Nextel Cup bodies from getting even farther away from the look of the real Cup cars. I'm in agreement that the body shapes have gotten about as radical as they ever should. The real Nextel Cup "Cars of Today" have also gotten pretty radical in the last 5 or 6 years as well.
I heard that they want to keep the roof area from getting any narrower, and the door/rear fenders from getting too quared off at the top. I'm hoping you guys out there will agree - that we don't want to have rc oval bodies looking more like Nascar Elite Division (or Southwest/Midwest Tour) type cars than they already do. (example: http://www.vadnaisracing.com/gallery.php)
The "6-1-07" date appears to be the date when they want their new rules to be finalized and applied to any new bodies that are submitted. I'm pretty confident that the #1226 T-HD will fit the new guidlines.

Hope that answers any questions.

HDX is also legal, it is falling into the new set of rules that are done as well. Windtunnel also has trucks and road bodies legal. www.roarracing.com (http://www.roarracing.com)

Have you tried going to ROAR's website and getting a contact email address and asking them directly?

There are a LOT of message boards - and just because someone asks a question on one doesn't mean it will be responded to as quick as some would like.

Your region director won't know.... but he should be the one asking for you to represent your concerns. Or John Foister, the Oval Committee Chairperson. He's the most active in committee's that I have ever seen.... :)

Email David Lee at leeda100@earthlink.net or me at dmsanchez@cox.net (both addresses and phone numbers found on the website) and we'll find out for you.

Sorry, I have been out of town a lot the last month or so... haven't been here to check the site. I do my best to check the Grid, RC TECH, Trinity Tech Talk and this one.....

again, about body legality - you need to contact David Lee, Technical Director. John's email isn't posted on the website yet and I have no idea why.. I will get that. (BSR Tires)

Bodies expire after a certain amount of time and the MFG's are welcome to resubmit the body, without a fee, if they want it included in their line of approved bodies. So, if the date is 6/1/2007 - well, its done. No legality until the MFG resubmits.

But, honestly, email David. He doesn't come here and its his job to answer those questions for you.

The question at hand is expiration dates. The T-HD and HDX that are the only two that fall into this situation, are both legal. Windtunnel has already re-submitted the hdx and is supposed to be re-upped in dating as soon as the new rules are final which should be done. My last approval of them was done a month ago. I would think that proline has done the same. Both bodies fall into legal form with the new rules. Hopefully someone from Roar will get this done so that there is not problems as we have seen in the past with legal or not. Roar......you have a nats coming up. You cant do what you did to guys last year. Not trying to start a fire storm but everyone please get on the same page and answer emails or questions the same.

As well as the Bandit Bodies, they were resubmitted last month, and are legal. Just not showing it on the website. As for the new body rule, hope it calms things down a bit from looking close to Arca or ASA bodies.

The oval comittee has finalized the proposed new rules and i will be forwarding them to the exec comittee soon.

As far as the Protoform T-HD, WT-2210, MC-M228, Bandit-bpt5000 and bpt5001, they will be legal for the Roar Paved Nats. I am sure this is not exactly a decision in perfect alignment with the established procedures but the T-HD expiration date was set in lieu of the new rules coming out in June. Yes the new rules are alittle late but they have been thoughly gone over and most are relatively happy with them. Look for them at the end of summer by the time they go through the remainder of the process.

If the protoform 2000 SS taruas has probably expired it normal 3 year period and they will have to resubmit for reapproval. If protoform is still producing the body i am sure Dale will be glad to resubmit it. If they are no longer producing it them it probably won't be resubmited. Just my opinion.

John, I referred to the ROAR Approved Body List on the ROAR Website. The 1221 in not listed, but the 1226 is. Sorry, but the approval for the 1221 obviously has expired and will not be eligible for the Nats in August. The 1226 may be used at that event.

Dawn, if Rob is me (Rob Murdock) I have no question about any bodies. I was just trying to clearify what is legal because of the early expiration dates of the HDX of which the T-HD fall into as well. But at the same time, we cant have what happened last year. Nuff said. Other than that I have no issue.

With the "New Guidelines" will all of the current bodies meet these? Or is there going to be a need for major re-tooling on the part of the manufacturers?
