I saw it tonight, and really enjoyed it. I can see now why it's gotten good reviews from unlikely sources like Fox News, even in uber-conservative Naples the crowd applauded at the end. Whether Moore is mellowing with age, or just thought the subject matter spoke for itself, it's not nearly as strident as Moore's earlier Farenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine. Moore doesn't even do his trademark ambushes or confrontations with a single politician or health insurance officials, he lets the anecdotes and statistics about America's health care system pretty much speak for themselves. And boy do they speak.

I thought it dragged a little at the end, but all in all a excellent documentary. I don't think it's a coincidence all of the sudden a lot of our leaders are suddenly pro-universal healthcare two weeks after this movie opened.

I'll probably get slammed by Griff and get the thread closed, but here are some interesting (and amusing) "lectures" given at TED. One interesting point made somwhere is that the better (?) countries are the healthier ones. I'm sure it could be picked at regarding what is important or constitutes a better country, but he uses infant mortalilty as a majot indicator. Enjoy.

Since it's pretty much impossible to discuss this movie without getting into the issues it raises, which makes it ipso facto a political discussion, maybe the only thing that should be mentioned here is the one thing we can all agree on: Michael Moore is fat and ugly!

When exactly did a movie about the problems with our healthcare system and it's myriad problems became "political"?

It's amazing how a certain segment of the population always insist you can't even discuss addressing a problem because it's "political". It's one of the reasons things are never fixed, not to mention allowing some to outright lie with inpunity because anybody that calls them on it is just engaging in "political theater".

maybe the only thing that should be mentioned here is the one thing we can all agree on: Michael Moore is fat and ugly!

Well, that, and that certain uninformed trolls are always standing by to purposely inflame discussions about anything or anybody they don't like, usually by hurling dismissive insults.

Perhaps in the future,if the only comment you have to contribute to a discussion about a movie you haven't seen is that the director is fat and ugly, you should restrain yourself and let the adults discuss it intelligently.

True.

As much on topic as PM's typical semi-political stuff.

Speaking of uninformed trolls who haven't even seen the movie and their dismissive insults.....

Regardless of what you think/feel, this thread is most definitely political. This man is well known as being a mouthpiece for the Far Left. His 'documentaries' are most certainly politically motivated. I've never seen one of his films and I never will.. I have no desire to see his distorted views on anything. This latest film.. I'll be nice and not call it propaganda.. violates the embargo against trade and travel to Cuba, that in and of itself would make me happy to see him arrested and prosecuted.

If you feel you must call me a Troll, refer to me as Ragnar.. I think that is a good troll name....

Saw it a couple of weeks ago. Incredibly depressing and funny as hell. I'm not hopeful that we'll ever see Universal Health Care in this country. The insurance and pharmaceutical companies (and the politicians who are in their pockets) weld incredible power in this country. They won't let it happen.

I think I'd prefer to call you whiner or crybaby, but that's just me.

OT- The film has been researched and virtually every assertion has been verified. Why is it wrong to demand better care for the citizens of the greatest country in the USA? Because, it cuts in to the profit margin! BTW- speaking of Cuba and models, Love to have a model of Eva Mendes, hot Cuban actress recently in "Ghost Rider". :)

Don't feel a need. While I may not agree with your opinions, and may in fact totally disagree, I can respect your reasons for not seeing the movie a lot more than "maybe the only thing that should be mentioned here is the one thing we can all agree on: Michael Moore is fat and ugly!".

And I disagree my first post was "political". It was my opinion about a movie I saw. And as someone who has actually seen the movie, I didn't find it partisian at all, very little politics is discussed, and it's stressed that politicians on both sides of the aisle are taking big bucks from the healthcare lobbyist.

Yep- It's well documented that the movie attacks both parties, but if your mind is already made up about something, there isn't any need to pay attention.

*SIGH*

While I'll agree that the movie itself is semi-political in nature, I was going to allow the thread to go on until people resorted to type and started turning the thread to pure-politics, hurling insults and making snide comments. I honestly don't understand why it is that folks can't intelligently discuss subjects without having to turn things ugly.

And yes, it can be done. Well, at forums where folks can be respectful of others.

Regardless, how 'bout we just leave any further documentaries that are even slightly political as Verboten. That means any documentary-type movie that skirts the subject politics needs to be discussed somewhere other than Hobby Talk, m'kay?

F91, Ohio_Southpaw, Y3a and PhilipMarlowe: You guys are all on a one week probation for either posting political statements or insulting others. Any TOS violations during that time will get you a 7 Day Time Out (BAN, for those who needs things spelled out for them). Please don't make me have to what I'd honestly rather not do - regardless of what a lot of you might think.

EDIT: After receiving a couple of PM's from 747 explaining his position on things, I feel I owe him an apology. I've removed his name from the "Probation List", as well.

So, my apologies for taking what you wrote wrongly, 747.
