Mathews' 7th Voyage and Gulliver played on local TV a lot when I was a kid.

I sure didn't know the name but when I saw the picture of Charles Lane at IMDB
http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/78/91/78m.jpg
... boy that guy was everywhere on TV

As for Sowards, most entertaining Trek movie ever ... maybe next time the Trekkies are deifying Nick Meyer perhaps they'll give Jackie B a tiny bit of credit.

This seems to always happen in threes. The world always seems a little bit emptier without folks like these around.

I expected to here the news about Charles Lane sooner or later - I do sincerely wish it had been later. He was a total professional. They always say that the "heavies" are often played by the nicest people, and this was certainly true of him. He was one of my favorites, and he will be missed.

Frankly, I was surprised to read of Charles Lane's passing because.....

.... I thought he'd been gone for years. I really didn't realize that he was still around.

One of the most ubiquitous character actors of all time! He was a fine performer who was a joy to watch in just about everything in which he appeared! I'd say that he'll be missed but... since I was under the impression that he was already gone, I guess that would be a bit of an overstatement.

I'll miss him just the same.

Agreed w/regards to Charles Lane. One of my favorites growing up. I always called him "The Professor" for some reason 'cause he just looked like a professor, I guess. I dunno....

Mr. Sowards is fondly acknowledged by me for writing my favorite Trek movie, as well as one of my favorite TNG episodes: "Where Silence Has Lease".

Sad to say that I really had no clue who Kerwin Matthews was. :(

Well, he was 102. They said on the news earlier he was the oldest living actor.

Sad to say that I really had no clue who Kerwin Matthews was.

His probably best-known lead role to genre fans was in The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad.

Kerwin Matthews is best known for a string of fantasy films he starred in in the early Sixties.

Sorry, I meant that I didn't know him by name. Once I went thru his IMDb entry, tho, I remembered who he was and what he looked like.

I just looked up Charles Lane the other day on IMDB after watching a episode of The Munsters. I was really surprised to find out he was still alive. I sure loved him in "The Ghost and Mr Chicken".

Charles Lane was ALWAYS 102, even when he played a young news hound at the beginning of Arsenic and Old Lace back in 1942! :)
You can be certain that with a gazillion-foot-of-film long career like he had, he'll never be forgotton; may he rest in ever-lasting peace.

"Someday this bright, young man is going to ask George Bailey for a job."

Or words to that effect in the exchange between Lane and Lionel Barrymore (Potter) in It's a Wonderful Life when Lane's character impresses upon Mr. Potter his admiration for George Bailey's business savvy is one of my favorite moments in one of my favorite films.

His role in Petticoat Junction was a favorite as well. He is interviewed in the DVD set of the show's 1st season collection and it was a welcome addition, as he was just over 100 at the time.

Yup. I think my first conscious association of character to Charles Lane the actor was as Homer Bedloe: the 'Mr. Potter' of Pixley!

One of my favorite roles of his was as the attorney interrogating Don Knotts in the courtroom scene from The Ghost And Mr. Chicken.
